The rec room is the biggest downstairs room,
(see the floor plans and compare to the size of the living room) and will be where we do most of our entertaining. It
connects to the downstairs bedroom across a hallway (behind the spot from where the
picture was taken) with a walk-out door, and to the patio via the French doors. Yes, the
fireplace works (and is wonderful). From the patio just outside the french doors in the back of the house (not the one I put in
later) it's a short ramble down to the deck, or you can go back to
the living room and the upstairs using the stairs in the
northeast corner of the room (left side of photo). Also on the downstairs level are the largest bedroom, an unfinished workspace (now my workshop), the third bathroom, the utility area, and a big walk-in closet that we built. Outside, underneath the carport, there's also a fully-enclosed storage area for things that can stand being in musty spaces. It's better than your average garden shed, but not temperature or humidity controlled. |
One of the few things we did before moving in was to carpet this room, covering the vinyl parquet-pattern tile with a nice tight Berber carpet and a couple of throw rugs. Of course, the furniture also helps add a little ambience. In the winter, when the sun streams in through the french doors, it's a wonderful place to hang out. Next up on the pending improvements list is to replace the cheap and hard-to-operate fireplace doors with something of a higher quality. |
