Our backyard is dominated by the deck, which covers the hole that used to be an
in-ground pool. It's really a poor site for a pool, since the tree right behind it not
only shades it all the time, but drops extraordinary quantities of leaves and nuts. It
must've been
The back yard is bowl-shaped, and covered entirely in ground cover and trees (no mowing required). The deck sits in the bottom of the bowl. From there, you can get very nice views of the back of the house. There is a real stairway down to the deck from the east end of the house, and another less well engineered one from the patio outside the French doors. This second stairway is really just railroad sleeper sections set into notches in the hillside. They're just set in place, and several will need to be more firmly secured before it's really safe to use them.
The French doors open onto the patio from the rec room, which is the main room downstairs. Since this picture was taken we've put a carpet down over the vinyl wood-look parquet tile floor.
That's about it for the nickel tour- come on out and we'll show you the wole thing!
