Diary Week Three
Day 15
|
Tuesday, 3rd August, 2004Got up early and packed the rest of my stuff back into the bags that Id brought with me all the way from Wales, and paid for my fortnight at the hotel. I had another quick go at the plastic brick, but it was dead as a dodo. Nothing doing. Gutted. I dragged my bags down to the bus stop at the bottom of the street, just catching the 11:30 bus into town, and had to store the bigger of the bags in the luggage hold underneath. Waved goodbye to Gaiman and arrived in Trelew twenty-five minutes later. After the hassle of just dragging the bags down the street, I decided there was no way I was going to try and walk with them from the bus station to my new room about five-ten minutes walk away, so I took a taxi down the road before hauling the bags up the steep stairs to my new room. Even though Id been to Trelew nearly every day for the past week, this was a new opportunity to have a wander round the city. I poked my nose into a gym which was advertising monthly membership for $20 (about four pounds) and had a chat with the owner, who turned out to be half-Welsh, and found a hypermarket only minutes from the house. Excellent! I did the usual e-mail checking, then went back to the gym to pay my money and pretend to get fit. Its easier to fool yourself than to actually do it, eh?! After that, I went to the cinema to watch an Argentinian cartoon film called Patorizitu, based on a traditional childrens comic about the native Indians. The story itself was familiar, kind of like the Cities of Gold cartoon which I watched as a kid. Afterwards, I went to buy some socks. Couldnt find any reasonable priced socks anywhere! Ended up at MegaShop, which as you can guess isnt that different from HyperValue where I managed to find some quite good quality, quite cheap socks. Fair dos. Another trip to Norte, the hypermarket, to get some pasta and the usual extras and a quickly made meal (once Id managed to open the sauce!) and then bed to finish off the rest of the Coupland novel and have a good nights sleep.
