Important!
Canada on 2 May reported
the identification of the A(H1N1) virus in a swine herd in Alberta. It is
highly probable that the pigs were exposed to the virus from a Canadian
farm worker recently returned from Mexico, who had exhibited flu-like
symptoms and had contact with the pigs. There is no indication of virus
adaptation through transfer from human to pigs at this time.
There is no risk of
infection from this virus from consumption of well-cooked pork and pork
products.
Individuals are advised
to wash hands thoroughly with soap and water on a regular basis and
should seek medical attention if they develop any symptoms of
influenza-like illness.

This chapter is an off shoot of the parent IAMM
body and is guided by its constitution and principles.
The Chapter has undergone various revivals and revisions
since its inception in the early 1990s.How ever, it was only towards the
end of the last decade of 20th century that it was put on a steady course
and since then it has grown in strength, both in activities and in
membership. In the year 2001 end it was proposed and passed by the general
body, that the corpus fund would be increased, hence ‘one time
contribution’ from the members, towards the chapter was initiated.
Besides a newsletter was also added to the
chapter’s initiative and a name adopted for it as ‘Jeevanu times’. Since 2002, there have been 7 such issues till
April 2005 and 8th one is due in October-November 2005.
As the role of Microbiology in Health care increases, the academic
activities should keep pace with recent developments in the field .To help
towards this and to further the cause of Microbiology in India, especially
in this part of the country, all medical/clinical microbiologists in and
around Delhi NCR region, are requested to become active members of this
Chapter.
