| Day 52 - October 23rd - Cameron Highlands - Warm/Cool/Raining ! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| (IJH) Another fairly quiet day - went for a trek down Trail 4 again as Dave hadn't been to the watchtower - also walking with Petra (yes we will be putting you photo on the web!). The Cameron highlands are quite different climatically from the rest of Malaysia as the extra makes for a big temperature and hunidity difference - in fact its rather like being in England in the summer - very pleasant temperatures when the sun's out - warm when its overcast (shorts and T-Shirts) and it has a torrential downpour usually once a day for an hour or so. It makes a very nice change not to sweat all the time which is the case elsewhere especially in places like KL. The food up here is also very cheap - a lunch curry/noodle lanksa will set you back about 50p and dinner about a quid. |

| Day 53 - October 24th - Cameron Highlands - Warm/Cool/Raining ! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| (IJH) Obviously having not learnt from last time I was determined to conquer the Brinchan Mountain and set about druming up a walking group which ended up including Trevor (from RSA living and working in the Cayman Islands) and Lindsey (English and from Grimsby) who for some reason believed knew where I was going - Dave opted (perhaps wiser) to stay and catch up on his books. We actually made Brinchan in good time this time around and set off on the circular Trail 1 in the opposite direct to last time taking the path through the jungle directly towards the mountain top. This was a good 2 hr trek to the top including clambering like apes having to hold onto tree routes along the way in parts - we definately made the right decision last time when we were climbing up through the tea plantation as this would have been a nightmare to climb down in the web and diminishing light. Anyway the top was well worth the haul although low lying cloud across the valley did not make the view as good as it could have been. The road back down was a steep decent back through the Boh Tea Plantations. Having made it back to the Lodge in mid afternoon the rest of the day was spent relaxing and then the evening turned (with the help of a couple of bottles of Vodka) into 'Deep and Meaniful' discussions which was only encouraged by someone who turned out to be a Lecturer in the Philosophy of Science ! I would not like to listen back to the conversation again as I suspect it was one of those that sounds intellectual at the time but on reflection would just look like b*ll*cks. Anyway it was fun at the time. |

| (IJH) Hangover high. Movement and thought low. Very quiet day. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Day 54 - October 26th - Cameron Highlands - Warm/Cool/Raining ! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| (IJH) We were meant to be leaving for KL today but due to hangover and laziness yesterday we didn't book it so we're going tomorrow at 0830. Oh well another day relaxing ...nevermind eh?? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Day 55 - October 27th - Cameron Highlands to KL | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| (IJH) An early start compared to what we are used to and sadly leaving the cooler climate of the Cameron Highlands behind - the bus journey was a bit of a mixed blessing - very careful driver compared to some of the nuts we have had so far - on the other hand he had a Westlife CD on continual loop which only had 4 songs on it...nice. Enough to make you go on a random killing spree only armed with my Swiss Army penknife... Bumped into Becky and Gemma again in KL sitting outside a 7/11 minus Gemma's sister Kate who had flown home - so we spent a tired but pleasant evening in the rooftop bar of our hostel in KL with them and Lindsey and Nia who had traveled down from the CH with us. Malacca tomorrow for the last long stay we have left in SE Asia. |

| Day 56 - October 28th - KL to Malaka | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| (IJH) A short 2hr bus journey to Malacca where we met up with Trevor as well as Becky and Gemma again as they traveled here 1/2 an hour before us. Malacca seems a nice mix of new and old - previously a Dutch trading port and then taken over by the British is has some old Chineese style buildings and also European churches/official buildings - proper sightseeing tomorrow - a taster of the style is included below. Also discovered a place that does proper Fish and Chips around the corner !! Bonus. |
