(Warning - cynicism ahead, rather harsh. Don't read if your feelings are easily hurt) ::walks in to write this article, her eyes bleary because she just woke up, her hair stuck up at odd places. Her hips sway in her staggered attempt of a walk, which is blamed on the pain of a fast four mile run from the night before. Her little Aisha, Teeklah, is on her hip, grinning at everyone and waving gleefully:: Excuse me? I think I'm at the wrong guild -- I thought this was the HelpYourNeopet Guild, not HelpYourNeopet Role-Playing Game. For the sheltered, a role-playing game (RPG) is like an on-going story where most people participate as the characters, using :: mun brackets :: or *asterisks* to show their actions. Sometimes / thoughts / are put between dashes, varying on the fandom you're playing in. [ brackets ] or (( double parentheses )) are used to show OOC, or Out of Character actions, like "I'm hungry -- I haven't had any breakfast yet!" There's more, but I don't want to bore you. Maybe role-playing your NeoPet sounds fun, but it doesn't to me. I like role-plays sometimes, when the situation is appropriate. My biggest argument against the RPG is that it will be on the guild message board. You know, the message board where people post about NeoPets and their hobbies and guild updates and new games that they love... all of those would be entirely POINTLESS if the board was covered by posts about my Aisha Teeklah walking through an enchanted forest where she meets up with Balthazar. How does Teeklah walking through an enchanted forest where she meets Balthazar help another Neopian? Does it at all? No Neopian is getting advice on which games to earn NeoPoints from in an RPG; no new Neopian is getting their warm welcome to the HYN community. We're not even discussing the new world or the new NeoPets! I can't even attest that most role-plays I've been in are at all challenging; they're accepting of bad grammar and poor vocabulary. They enjoy punctuation (or lack thereof). Sadly, you can't even argue that a guild role-play would help your English skills. In conclusion, there are many reasons why a guild RPG would be a bad idea, and the biggest reason is all because HYN has a goal of HELPING YOUR NEOPET! You can't help a NeoPet by having a RPG! It takes up space! It doesn't help any newbie earn much needed NeoPoints, and it disrupts discussions about the latest Neopets. It defeats the "Help" purpose entirely. ::walks away to go rummage in the cupboards for breakfast, her walk a little more coordinated than it was when she first began this commentary. her eyes are open wider, but her hair still sticks out.
