Dianthus gratianopolitanus 'Firewitch'
(Cheddar Pinks)
Perennial Plant of the year 2006

This german hybrid is most noted for its extremely blue foliage, heat tolerance and the fact that it is the longest flowering of the Dianthus. The brilliant, bright-magenta, clove-scented blooms reach a height of 6-7" atop the silvery-blue, evergreen foliage. Heavy spring bloom is followed by sporadic summertime rebloom, especially if deadheaded. Dianthus 'Firewitch' develops into a tight, tidy groundcover that is evergreen, providing winter interest. It grows best in full to partly sunny areas that have well-drained, slightly alkaline soil.
It has proven itself to be a tolerant, low maintenance plant.                             Zone: 3-8
