Rufus Hourigan, who lives near Gravel Switch owns a violin which is said to be a genuine Stradivarius.  According to the inscription on the instrument it is nearly 200 years old.  If the violin is genuine, as many believe that is, it is very valuable and should Mr. Hourigan desire to dispose of it would command a fancy price.

AGED RETIRED FARMER DIES PARALYTIC STROKE IS FATAL TO RUFUS HOURIGAN, 85, AT DAUGHTER'S HOME
Rufus Hourgian, 85, retired farmer and former constable in the Riley vicinity, died last Friday  morning at 7 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John B. Hale, with whom he had made his home on College Street in this city for nearly twenty-five years.  His death followed the second of two paralytic strokes and did not come  unexpectedly.  Until he was first stricken in June, Mr. Hourigan enjoyed exceptionally good health for one the his advanced age, took pride in tending his garden and was frequently in the business section of Lebanon displaying the vegetables he had grown or discussing politics in which he had taken an active interest since he was a young man.  He improved following the original stroke but after suffering another two weeks later, declined gradually until he  expired.  WAS STAUNCH DEMOCRAT---Mr. Hourigan was born March 22, 1857, and was a son the late Rufus and Nancy Pipes Hourigan.  A native of this county, he had spent most of his life in the East End where he long engaged in farming.  Although he never held other public offices, he followed political events with enthusiasm and was a staunch Democrat.  On May 18, 1878, he was united in marriage to Miss Almeda Kinnett of the Bradfordsville community and to the union three children were born.  Mrs. Hourgian died December 26, 1884, and the couple's only son, Edgar Lee Hourigan, a Spanish-American War veteran, followed his mother to the grave 18 years ago.  Surviving Mr. Hourigan are two daughters, Mrs. Hale, with whom he lived, and Mrs. Mildred Plenty of Littleton, RI.  He is also survived by a number of grandchildren.  After preparation for burial at the Bosley Funeral Home, the body was taken to the Haysville Baptist Church where funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Olof Anderson, Jr., Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock.  Interment took place in the church cemetery.  Pallbearers were John B. Hale, Jr., Freddie Crell, Tilden  Hourigan, A.J. Hourgian, Jr., Frank Edmondston and David Hourigan.
