DEATH CLAIMS JOHN B. HALE
AMPUTATION IN EFFORT TO SAVE LIFE OF RETIRED RAILWAY MAIL CLERK FUTILE
John Benton Hale, 54 years old, retired railway postal clerk, passed away at 5:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at The Baute Infirmary, his death having been due to diabetes and other complications.  In February of this year a burn suffered on the bottom of this right foot resulted in blood poisoning, and early in September he accidentally struck the same foot against a chair, causing a second attack of blood poisoning which confined him to bed for five weeks.  Last Thursday he was removed to the infirmary and on the following morning submitted to an operation for the amputation of his leg above the knee in a final effort to save his life.  Following his death the body was removed to the Bosley Funeral Home and Tuesday morning was taken to the Hale residence on College Street.

The son of John and Martha Cahill Hale, both deceased, Mr. Hale was born August 22, 1885, in Mercer County near Harrodsburg.  At the age of 21 her entered the Government service and held the position of railwary clerk until two years ago when retirement became necessary because of failing health.  Early in life he bacame affliated with the Masonic order and at the time of his death was a Knight Templar.  He was stricly honest and fair in his dealing, was intensely loyal to his family and friends, and was a man of cheerful disposition.  On January 10, 1905, Mr. Hale was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Hourigan, who survives.  Other than his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Beulah Hale Ward,
Miss Almeda Hale and Mrs. Marion Hale Sloane, all of this city, and Mrs. Fred Crull, of Louisville; one son, John Benton Hale, Jr., of Henrieville, Utah; one brother, Sylvester Hale, of Harrodsburg; three half-sisters, Mrs. Estil Catlett and Mrs. Thomas Taylor, both of Harrodsburg, and Mrs. Wesley Taylor, of DeKalb, Illinois; two grandchildren, Hugh Benton Ward and Wanda Lee Crull, and a number of neices and nephews.
BURIAL AT HAYSVILLE
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Olof Anderson, Jr., pastor of the United Presbyterian Church of this city, were held at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Haysville Baptist Church.  Interment was in the Haysville Cemetery.  The active pallbearers were Gene Brady, Foster Hale, Roy Hourigan, Sam Hourigan, Howard Mullins and Albert Hourigan.  Honorary pallbearers were Bernard Mattingly, Will Ward, Virgil Tatum, R. J. Wise, James Mattingly, Sam Harmon and Mose Tatum, and the following railway clerks of Louisville: John R. Whitehouse, Paul A. Rexroat, O. K. Vessells, H. R. Richardson, Smith Hord, and Fred Gayton.

DIES OF HEART ATTACK
Mrs. Nancy Margaret Hale, 84, of Louisville, died suddenly of a heart attack enroute to a Louisville hospital at 11:30 am Saturday, December 2.  Mrs. Hale, a native of Marion County, formerly resided on College Street.  She was the widow of John B. Hale.  Survivors include a son,
John B. Hale, Jr., four daughters, Mrs. F. L. Edmistion, Mrs. Mary Craull, Mrs. Leslie Arnold and Miss Amelda Hale; a sister, Mrs. Mildred Plenty, all of Louisville; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  The body was at Heady & Son Funeral Home, Louisville, until Tuesday when it was brought to Bosley Funeral Home.  The funeral was held there at 1 pm Wednesday by the Rev. Gary Pennington.  Burial was in the Haysville Cemetery.  Pallbearers were: J. P., Roy B., and Jesse Hourigan, James Whitehouse, Henry Bonta and Virgil Ray Tatum.
