Spencer's Story
This is Spencer. In early December 2001, Tri-State Basset Hound Rescue called and said that they have a hound in desperate need of a foster home, could we help? This poor skinny boy was found wandering the streets in Warminster, PA for several weeks. He was finally caught and brought to the local shelter. The shelter called Tri-State, who came and sprung him.
Since there were no foster homes available, he was placed in a kennel where Tri-State rented space. He wasn't gaining any weight. he was literally skin and bones, and Tri-State feared for his life. What could we do? We went to the kennel and picked up a sweet but painfully scrawny and seriously malnourished Basset boy, presumed to be between 1.5 and 3 years old.
We took him home, gave him lots of love and FOOD! He met
Rosie and Flash, the resident Bassets, and got along fine with them.  He needed to learn some manners, but he was already housebroken!
The following weekend was the Tri-State Howliday Party. Suzanne from Tri-State said that there would be potential adopters there, could we please bring Spencer?  Spencer met these people and spent time with them. But they decided that he was just too tall! Can you imagine?
The party ended, and while we were driving home, Spencer climbed into Ralph's lap in the passenger's seat, gazed into Ralph's eyes,  curled into a tight Basset ball, and fell asleep. There was silence in the car for a short while. Finally, Ralph said, "He loves me." I said, "Merry Christmas, a little early." There was no way we could give up this sweet little guy!
So we officially failed "Fostering 101." Since then, Spencer has become a wonderful addition to our pack. He is a zany guy.... he loves to climb all over you, make funny sounds, and give you "alligator mouth"... he'll open his mouth and put it over your face. Only true Basset lovers can appreciate the beauty of it!
He runs like the wind, loves to cuddle, barks like mad at the cats in the neighborhood or just a truck going down the street.  He is an absolute joy and he keeps us laughing.
Spencer was very sad when Rosie went to The Bridge. But just a few months later
Jasmine joined the family. They love to run together in the yard, and the Basset 500 breaks out every night while dinner is being prepared.
