| We got a call last July from Tri-State Basset Hound Rescue, for which Ralph and I are volunteers. They needed help Tri-State had just gotten a call (at 11:00 a.m.) from a Chester, PA shelter that someone dropped off FOUR Basset Hounds. If they werent picked up by 3:00 p.m. that day, they would all be destroyed! Could we PLEASE take just one? | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Four year-old Jasmine, her two 1.5 year old pups, and their puppy daddy were all dropped at the shelter. A volunteer from Tri-State sprung them, then transported the dogs to three foster families. One family took Comet (the dad) and the daughter, Isabelle. Sadly, Isabelle must have been poisoned prior being dropped at the shelter, and she died from kidney failure after spending two weeks at the vets office. Another family fostered Bear (the son) for several months; he went to his forever home last October. Jasmine came to our house as a temporary addition. Dangerously overweight (72.5 lbs), looking like shed never been brushed or bathed, this sweet girl moved in. She got along great with the resident Bassets Flash and Spencer, both Tri-State alumni. She was put on a diet and is now down to a svelte 56 lbs., with about 5 more pounds to lose. She never once tried to get on the furniture (even though she was invited many times). In September, we decided this girl had found her forever home with us. When we told her she was here to stay, she got up on the couch and took a nap. I guess she figured shed suckered us in finally, and didnt have to be on her best behavior any more! Jasmine loves to run the Basset 500 with six year old Spencer, and will spin in circles when we walk in the door or when she wants a cookie! Please help us help other Basset Hounds. Jasmine and Bear found their forever homes. Comet remains in foster care, as do over 60 more Bassets that Tri-State is trying to find homes for. Tri-State normally takes in about 200 Bassets each year; in 2004 they took in 275! They are out of money, and desperately need funds. |
