Mid 2003
-
The
original idea re-ignited during 2003. The "curries" talked about a serious
attempt. Software, microphones, instrumentals were required. The resources were
not available at the time. A difficult year for "curries" in terms of their
studies. The idea lingered in the air. JS deferred his course until next year,
and moved overseas for the summer. The idea seemed washed out.
Summer 2003
-
During an outing with P-Zee and other "curries", R&D jokingly states that
"P.I.M.P" rhymes with "Homeboy Desi" - a name used by R&D for some years now.
The remark did not sound special at that time, and the concept was forgotten for
about 2 weeks. R&D visits Tasmania for 1 week, and returns to find himself in
front of a computer, experimenting with lyrics for the song PIMP. Slowly, line
by line, the new lyrics take shape. The concept of a "curry theme" applied to a
hip hop routine was the first of its kind. Bhangra remixes of hip hop music were
becoming increasing popular thanks to the release of Panjabi MC's "Mundian to
bath ke". No one had come up with "curry themes" lyrics for a hip hop song in
the mainstream. The idea flourished. With the availability of sophisticated
music mixing software and other resources, Homeboy Desis began to experiment
with the song. On 19th of Dec 2003, the song "Homeboy Desis - remix of P.I.M.P"
was born, and it was the first of many more.
Da future -
The
future for more of such songs has been well set. The original "curries" will
venture together in the 21st century. The birth of more songs is inevitable.
