Objective:

1) Build a means of controlling the temperature to reduce operating costs and extend the life of the heating unit.

2) Use easily attainable and easily replaceable parts.

3) Minimize cost by utilizing "junk" from around the house.

  • Standard 3 wire appliance cord (14 AWG wire)
  • Project box
  • 12 volt power supply
  • Type K power hookup
  • 1 amp fuse
  • 22 AWG wire
  • Soldier
  • Mercury bulb type thermostat
  • Grounded household outlet
  • 2 1/8" pop rivets with washers
  • 10 amp DPDT Relay w/12 volt solenoid -NOTE! -used both poles in parallel to break the circuit
  • 10 amp relay socket
  • Hot glue
  • 2 screws with wall anchors
  • Wire staples

  • 1/4" plastic/wood/metal drill
  • 1/4" percussion masonry drill bit
  • #2 Phillips screw driver
  • 3/16" blade type screw driver
  • Heavy tin snips
  • Pop rivet gun
  • No. 43 Drill with 4-40 Tap
  • Sharp knife or razor
  • Wire stripper
  • Soldiering iron

  • Felt tip pen or scribe
  • Hot glue gun
