Propriety in Worship

Worship is a sacred and holy experience. The people of God meet in public worship to seek God. Our focus in worship is to exalt God, to praise Him, and to listen to the preaching of His Holy Word. The reading and exposition of the Word of God are the central focus of our worship. Our musical praise employs God’s Word only, making use of the divinely inspired Book of Psalms, the Ten Commandments, the Lord’s Prayer, the Twelve Articles of Faith, the Songs of Mary, Zacharias, and Simeon of the Bible. It is a translation based on the original languages, and set to tunes suitable for congregational singing. In keeping with the
New Testament Church’s directive for heart worship and simplicity, we sing a cappella - that is, without the aid of any musical instruments.

As such, the Bible expects all worshippers to:

Be punctual for worship service - Psalm 63:1 O,God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirty land, where no water is;

Be reverent in behavior - Exodus 3:5 And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.

Be sincere in worship - John 4:24 And God is a spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Be silent in worship when God speaks in the preaching - Habakkuk 2:20 But the Lord is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.

Be active in praise - Psalm 66:2 Sing forth the honour of his name: make his praise glorious.
