Pvt. Joseph R. Guerrera

Pvt. Joseph R. Guerrera, 20 years old from Dunn, North Carolina.

What can be said about Joesph other then he is an American full of pride. His aunt said that her nephew believed he could make a difference in Iraq.
He joined the Army in February (2003) and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division in July. He deployed to Iraq that following August.

"He was full of pride to represent his country." Debbie Dunn said. "He wanted to be in the 82nd Airborne. Well, that dream came true for young Joesph.
"He was anxious to go because he felt like he could do some good."

Debbie said though the family was grieving, they were coping because Joseph was fighting for freedom.
"We are thankful to God that we were able to know him for 20 years." Says Dunn. "Joseph is in a better place than we are."

Pvt. Guerrera was assigned to C Company, 2nd Battalion, 325th Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division based out of Fort Bragg, N.C.
He was killed on Oct. 26 (2003) when his vehicle was hit with an improvise explosive device (IED) in Baghdad.

Joseph is survived by his mother, stepfather, four brothers and a sister. His biological father also was in the Army. He was killed in a helicopter crash in Germany when Joseph was 4 years old.
Pvt. Guerrera at the time was the tenth paratrooper from the 2nd Brigade Combat Team to be killed. The team is made up of three battalions from the 325th Infantry Regiment. The unit was one of the first to complete a year long tour in Iraq, they were expected to return to Fort Bragg in February of 2004.
