![]() Spc. Toccara R. Green, 23 years old from Rosedale, Maryland. Toccara's devotion to her country is what inspired her most, as well as her desire to be in the military - that was evident early on. For her entire high school career, she got up early and stayed late to participate in her campus ROTC. She graduated from high school in 2000 and attended Norfolk State University in Virginia, where she studied telecommunications and broadcasting. In her spare time she loved roller skating and working on cars. In 2003, Toccara enlisted. During basic training, she met Spc. Nicole Coleman - they became fast friends. They would refer to themselves as "Batman and Robin" or "Pinky and the Brain". Spc. Green was assigned to the 57th Transportation Company, 548th Corps Support Battalion based out of Fort Drum, N.Y. She was killed on August 14, 2005 after several bombs detonated near her unit during combat operations in Al Asad, Iraq. It is believed Toccara is the first woman soldier killed in combat in Iraq. She is survived by her father Garry Green Sr, and mother Yvonne. "The only thing that puts my mind at ease is that she died for what she believed in." Said Garry Green Jr., her brother. "She said her ideal situation: go out fighting for our country." |
