DataBase Submission Guide

There are a few general rules to follow when submitting artwork, fiction or campaigns to the DataBase. These rules are in place to make our lives easier -for the most part- but we also hope that by giving you an idea of what the DataBase is expecting to receive, it will help focus your own efforts.

We look at all submissions on a first-come first-serve basis, so if you don't see your work right away, be patient, it's probably next in line. If you have any suggestions on the matter of presentation feel free to make them. *NOTE* The Terranovan DataBase reserves the right to completely ignore you, but if the DataBase can accommodate your ideas without making a pile of work, We'll try to do so.

The 3 Stooges

All submissions should be related to Heavy Gear in some way. We'd prefer if you restrict the use of all-ready established characters, but your free to do so. Use the Chess-Piece System as a rough guide on who to use and where. However, if the story dictates so, please you them. But, it may work better for your stories if you create original characters. We ask that all submissions be appropriate and not include lude gratuitous sex, excessive foul language, etc. And try to reduce the violence, but don't exceed the limits of 'good taste' for Heavy Gear is meant for people of all ages, but since it is a world at war, some violence is acceptable, just make sure there is a plot to the story and not just people getting killed.

Short Fiction
Submissions to the short fiction category should be a minimum of 1,000 words. (approx. 2 single-spaced, typed pages.) Short stories that do not meet this requirement will be returned to the author. Stories should be fully realized, with a beginning, middle, and an ending. Incomplete stories will not be published and will be returned to the author.

Long Fiction
Submissions to the long fiction category should be a minimum of 5,000 words. (aprox. 10 single-spaced, typed pages.) Submissions to the long fiction category that do not meet this requirement will be published in the short story category (see above). Stories should be fully realized, with a beginning, middle, and an ending. Incomplete stories will not be published and will be returned to the author.

Multiple Chapter Fiction
Fiction that falls into this category is determined on a case-by-case basis by the section editor. In order for a work to be considered for this category of writing, it needs to meet additional criteria. A multi-chapter work should be at least several submissions of 'long fiction' that, when read together, make up a larger work of fiction. Again, the editor makes this determination once a number of smaller have been received.

Fan Artwork
Heavy Gear Pic The Terranovan DataBase accepts submissions of black and white, and color artwork. All submissions should be related in some way to the world of Heavy Gear. Subject matter can be determined by the artist. We ask that all artwork be appropriate and in 'good taste', see above for the details.
Artwork should be sent to The Terranovan DataBase as an email attachment. When you send your file, we ask that you adhere to the following guidelines:

File Format
Artwork is only accepted in one of the following two file formats: GIF or JPEG. We will not accept files submitted in other formats because the file size is much to large to be sent via email.

Images Dimensions:
All images should also adhere to the following guidelines of physical size. The image should be at least 600 pixels in a single dimension: in other words, at least 600 pixels wide or 600 pixels tall. (If your image is both, that is fine as well.) Larger images are welcome as long as they fall within the file size requirements out lined below.

File Size: Files should be, at most, 150 Kbytes in total size. The use of JPEG compression is recommended for reducing the size of photographic-quality artwork, but not to the point where the image quality suffers drastically. GIF graphics are recommended for images with large areas of solid color (remember, though, that GIFs are limited to 256 colors).

All works can be sent to: [email protected] and thanks for submitting.
