![]() Caprice is a dry, barren planet that can barely-support life. Only in the deep-trenches, where the planets atmosphere is greatest, is life capable without breathing apparatus's. At first glance the planet seems an unlikely candidate for colonization, but Caprice is the nexus point of all gateways ever found by Earth's ships. That in addition with the rich mineral deposits made the Gateworld a important colony for Earth forces. With the except of rural nomads, the Liberati, all the population is concentrated in the Cat's Eye, a deep trench located across the equator. The trench is one gigantic metropolis, named Gommarrah. Due to the large quantities of minerals on Caprice much of Gommorrah is industrial factories. Soon after being colonized the planet became the industrial center for the Human Concordat, and half of Earth's Gateships were built on the Gateworld. Being the center of industry in the human colonies its economy developed aroung industry and trade, this focused economy would bring the planet hard times in the future.
When Earth pulled out of the Colonies, Caprice suffered heavily. It's economy, based heavily on industry and intersteller trade, collapsed overnight. As the last of the Earth Gateships traveled through the Gateway, the capital city of Caprice, Gommorrah burned. Caprice slowly rebuilt it city from the ashes of the chaos. With the few remaining colonial-era shipyards, Caprice kept a small fleet of Gateships and tried desperately to continue it's trade with other systems, including Earth. The Caprician Gateship that traveled back to Earth in Caprice's sole attempt to recontact Earth, found a fleet of Concordat ships waiting. The Gateship barely made it back to the Gateworld. Caprice continued to trade with Terra Nova, but visits were few and far between.
