The class was asked the following questions:

  2.    What is an RCC dam?  (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=roller+compacted+dam)
  3.    When was the Heppner Dam built?
  4.    Why was the Heppner Dam built?
  5.    Name the highest RCC dam in California
  6.    Name an RCC dam in Colorado
  7.    Name an RCC dam in India
  8.    How might Heppner's history be different if the dam weren't built?
  9. How might Heppner's history be different had the dam been built 100 years earlier?
  10. Tell what else you learned about RCC dams or dam locations while doing this research (something not addressed by any of the questions above)
  11. upload ONE picture of an RCC dam (anywhere in the world)

2.The use of roller-compacted concrete (RCC) originated in Canada during the mid-1970s when dry land log sorting became mandatory for the forest industries of British Columbia. RCC, a durable paving material that carries heavy loads, is now developing as a fast, economical construction method for dams, off-highway pavement projects, heavy-duty parking and storage areas, and as a base for conventional pavement. RCC is a stiff, zero-slump concrete mixture with the consistency of damp gravel comprised of local aggregates or crushed recycled concrete, portland cement, and water. The mixture is placed and roller compacted with the same commonly available equipment used for asphalt pavement construction. The process requires no forms, finishing, surface texturing, or joint sawing and sealing. -PCA
