Scouting
movement in started in India right from 1909. But it was limited to English and Anglo
Indian children only. Some Indians and English people started the troops for Indian Boys
since 1913. But it was officially started by Dr. Annie Besant assisted by Dr. G.S.
Arundale in 1916 through Boy Scouts Association in Madras. Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya,
Pandit Hridaynath Kunzuru and Pandit Shri Ram Bajpai founded the "Seva Samiti Scout
Association" at Allahabad in 1917. |

In
the year 1921 Lord B.P. visited the Indian Scout movement and was satisfied with the
activities. However, they tried to bring together the different organisations working for
the movement but did not succeed. |

In
1938 due to a wave in intense nationalism several members of the Boy Scout Association
left the movement. The Hindustan Scout Association was founded where boys and girls worked
together. |

After
independence the national leaders again tried to reunite different organisation in the
country and as a result, on November 7, 1950 the "BHARAT SCOUTS AND GUIES" was
founded. |
