Ranks

Advancing through the ranks in the Hearts of Valor requires dedication, involvement, and a desire to improve the guild and the game itself.  Each rank represents additional power, responsiblities, and authority.

There are three methods for advancement within the Hearts:

Advancement by Department
As a character advances within his Department he is awarded new titles.  Each of these titles is associated with a minimum rank, and once the character recieves that title he is automatically promoted to the appropriate rank if he has not yet recieved it.  See the
Awards section on titles for more information.

Advancement by Merit
As with characters who advance by department, characters who gain honors within each of the various orders are awarded titles based on their level of participation.  Each of these titles has a minimum rank that the character will automatically gain upon recieving their award.  See the
Awards section under orders for more details.

Advancement by Skill
The final method for advancement is actually a combination of the other two.  Each award you recieve, each task you perform, each level you gain, and each title you earn is worth a certain point value that is tallied weekly.  Onve you recieve enough total guild advancement points, your character will automatically advance in rank, even if the awards are not enough individually to earn higher titles and awards.
A note on alternate characters

Players with more than one character in the guild will not recieve additional votes in guild elections, nor will the rank for each character be determined according to the standard rules.  Instead, each character who is not a player's primary within the group will be issued a rank 1 (or more if the rank is based on tradeskill) lower than his primary character.  One the webpage the character's title will be amended with the Honorar descriptor, indicating that it was issued for a player's contributions, not neccesarily the character's.

Thus, if Shakyr were a Lord Marshal, his alternate chracters would have the title Champion of the Heart
Honorar.  If Stoen had been given the title Defender, then his alternates would bear the title Advocate Honorar.

High Lord
Rank 0
The High Lord is the guild master of the Hearts of Valor.  It is his job to mediate over disputes and to MC any guild function.  As a mediator the High Lord does not vote on guild issues unless there is a tie, instead he makes sure that each side is heard, and that bothe sides of a dispute are represented fairly.
There is only one High Lord per server.

Lord of the Circle
Rank 1
The Lords of the Circle each represent one of the neccesary duties involved in running the guild.  They are hand-picked by the High Lord, and there is only one Lord of the Circle in each possition.

Lord Seneschal:
Second in command, and answering only to the High Lord, it is the Lord Seneschal's job to mediate all disputes when the guild master is unavailable.  It is also his duty to maintain guild records, plan quests, and encourage members to seek awards.

Lord Inquisitor:
Charged with policing the deeds of our own members, it is the Lord Inquisitor's sad duty to investigate and punish those members of the Hearts who break our rules.

Lord Commander:
In charge of scheduling and monitoring roleplaying events, duels, and guild raids.  It is the Lord Commander's duty to provide interesting events for members of all classes and levels.

Lord Herald:
The voice of the Hearts of Valor, the Lord Herald is responsible for making important guild announcements, maintaining the mailing list, and monitoring the guild message boards.

Lord Ambassador:
The Lord Ambassador is tasked with acting as the guild's representative to outsiders.  It is his job to arrange alliances, answer questions for potential members, and plan recruitment events.  Should the guild wish to participate in a guild war or other inter-guild roleplaying event, it is the Lord Ambassador's duty to make it happen.

Lord Marshal
Rank 2
Lord Marshal is the highest rank that a member of the Hearts can reach without being appointed a specific responsibility by the guild master.  There is one Lord Marshal representing the Lords of each order and Department.  Once each of these possitions is filled it is only possible to reach this high rank through Advancement by Skill.

Champion of the Heart
Rank 3
The Champions of the Heart act as the officers' liason to the Conclave.  When no officer is available, members can turn to the Championss to answer their questions, deal with their problems, and help them with guild-related issues.

Master Craftsman
Rank 4
Master Craftsmen act as guild quartermasters, and are responsible for keeping guild members well-equiped.  To qualify, members must have a primay tradeskill at 600+, and must be willing to produce equipment for guild members at reasonable cost.

Defender of the Hearts
Rank 5
If the Hearts of Valor had sergeants, the Defenders would be them.  They have authority over the lower ranking members of the guild, and it is their responsibility to help newer guildmates navigate the chain of command.  Low-level guild hunting parties, questing groups, and small roleplaying events will usually have a Defender along to verify the group's success and ensure that proper credit and awards are handed out.

Tradesman
Rank 6
Tradesmen are members of the guild who are working to improve their skills for the betterment of the guild and its members.  To qualify characters must have a tradeskill at 300+, and must be willing to provide what equipment they can to guildmates for a reasonable price.  In return, the guild will aid their efforts to improve their skills whenever possible.

Advocate
Rank 7
Advocates are the general body of the Hearts of Valor, and make up the majority of its members.  Those who qualify for this rank have proven themselves regularly, and have participated in many guild functions and events.

Adept
Rank 8
Once a guild member has passed his probationary period, he is eligible to advance to Adept status.  This is the first step along the path to full membership and privileges within the guild.

Initiate
Rank 9
The newest members of the Hearts of Valor, these characters are granted probationary status until they have proven themselves within the guild.  Any guild member may recruit new inititiates to our ranks, but as probationary members, each Initiate must be sponsored by an existing member who is responsible for their actions and helping them to understand and advance within our guild.
