There is Some Good in the World

This must have been some cruel trick
For awhile the only gift of life
Was the hail that screamed murder
Against your bare back.
Bear the pain and welcome it
Since the passive voice would never be heard
Among the mocks of the world.
There must have been some mistake
When Man was sculpted the way he was
Or either his formation was corrupted
By the grains of time?

I spit out the poison in my mouth
That humanity gave me to drink.
But I learned to look past the horror
The double-sided mirror
Revealed the truth
The good and evil
Of the world we watch with clouded minds.

A familiar fire
A retrieved emotion.
Barely able to mouth the word that may save us all-
Hope.
Such a powerful love
That would not exist without the prevailing truth.
A candle in the dark
May cease to flicker
Burning brightly in the sky.

Portraits may be altered
While the tides turn in the battle.
I'll fight just to keep
A smile alive-
One fire
In a blizzard night
