Wrecked Spitfire
I have come to the conclusion that it was as much my fault as his, but take my advice and never believe the turn signals showing on the back of a Ford Crown Victoria with an 84 year old man behind the wheel.  His signal said he was making a left turn, but he changed his mind and came back into me as I turned to the right.  I was in his blind spot and was too close to him, so he didn't see me in his rear view mirror.  No tickets, but no witnesses either, so we both got to pay our own repair costs.  At least this gave me an excuse to get rid of the BURBs (Big Ugly Rubber Bumpers), and get a PRI Air Dam, something I've lusted after for a few years now.
A friend who is building a "Spit 6" had bought a parts car just for the tub.  I took the bonnet to a chemical stripping shop in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  For $150, the entire bonnet was dipped in two different acid baths and then a neutralizing bath.  All the paint, undercoating, bondo, and rust were removed.  This left a fairly nice, shiny metal surface to work on.  There is a fairly large, wide dent in the nose and a few small ones in other areas.  It also has the typical cracks around the headlights and latch handles.  These will all be repaired, then primed and painted.  The hood support tubes were removed and were also dipped.  They were powdercoated in black.
