Fountains are incredibly decorative and what's even better, if you decide to make an effort and create one of your own it's an extra hobby. You'll need to buy the pump (they come in all sorts of sizes) and then you can make the simpliest fountain: just put the pump in a bowl filled with water. Also, there are attachments for the pumps that generate a different flow. You can combine a few bowls placed one below other, maybe put a spot-light behind the fountain to color the water. You can even go to the park and collect a few rocks with your kids or put sea shells you brought home from summer holidays for a more natural looking fountain.

For a great fog effect, buy some dry ice and mix it with hot tap water and your fountain will look as if it's boiling making a thick fog for the first 10 minutes. As the water cools it will give out minor fog and then you have to pour more hot water. Don't over do it though, because the floors might get slippery after a while.
