Of all the recordings that made it onto the "Graven Images" album, this one is the earliest (1988) and the only one made prior to the Hyland Studio session of 1991 . John had acquired Flanger, Chorus, and Delay pedals and wanted to put them to good use. One day, he set up two amps (in his dorm room) with two microphones running into a tape deck. Utilizing the stereo aspect of the pedals, he wrote and recorded a brief instrumental. It was later discovered that the short piece would make a nice introduction to another HBI song, "Truth."
