This was my second visit with Nancy.  We had the routine check-up that included listening to Kirsten's heartbeat, checking my weight, checking my blood pressure & measuring the growth of my uterus.  Everything is looking good so far except for the fact that I have a lack of iron in my blood (pregnancy related anemia).  Simple to fix though.  I just have to take 325mg of iron everyday for the next four months.  Then we'll see what we need to do at that point.  Other than that, everything is looking great.  I have the traditional heartburn & fatigue.  Not to mention the general uncomfort of being as big as I am.  :-)

I actually had two doc appointments.  One was just a general check up (hear Kirsten's heartbeat, measure my tummy, check my weight & blood pressure).  I found that I only gained 1 1/2 pounds since 8/15/02.  But, they didn't seem worried at all.  I, of course, was somewhat bothered by it because I need to gain so much weight.  The other appointment was a little more personal with an exam.  They're checking out for some possible complications I may have.  This is just something that we did because I had been at such a low weight before I found I was pregnant.  We'll see how that goes.

Okay, so this appointment took quite a while.  Kirsten dropped Sunday night.  That means that she's just headed a little farther south in preperation for her birth.  Not only that, but my braxton-hicks contractions are becoming much more intense.  So, after I called Nancy about it on Tuesday, she decided that today I would have an exam, some tests run to see if there was a bacteria present that women have just before they give birth & a stress test.  The stress test took quite some time.  I had to sit in a recliner (fully reclined) for half an hour with monitors wrapped around my middle.  It was quite boring.  But, it was interesting to hear Kirsten's heartbeat the whole time as it increased from 150 to 170 beats per minute everytime she moved . . . & boy was she active!  That turned out to be good.  The other tests came back negative.  Since the tests aren't 100% accurate, this just means that I won't be delivering within the next two weeks.  I am, however, 1 cm dilated.
TAKE ME HOME!

NO WEIGHT GAIN!  NO UTERINE GROWTH!  Not a good thing to have happen!  Nancy was concerned about that. So, she set up an ultrasound at my next appointment on 10/10.  If anything, I'll get my 3rd set of ultrasound pictures!  Kirsten has always been long for the norm, so it may just be that she's "taking a break" in the weight gain area.  Fortunately, her father is really tall, so I'm hoping that the extra weight she's always had will protect her from intrauterine-growth retardation.  Other than that, Nancy just suggested that I wear a maternity belt to help support the weight I've gained up front since it's causing such a HUGE amount of strain on little me.
