The Big Day
38 weeks & 6 days. . . didn't make it to 39 weeks. . . just like I said!  I just wanted to share with you a couple of pictures of little Kirsten.  I don't have too much time anymore to update the site, but I'll be sure to share it with you every time there's an update.

Labor was quick!  Labor started at 9 AM, I called my midwife at 10 AM & arrived at the hospital at 11 AM.  I knew at 8:30 that morning that the 30th was the day though. . . even though labor hadn't begun!  When I got there, they put me in triage & found that I was still only 2 cm dilated.  So, they told me to walk for 2 hours.  Within 45 minutes, I was back in triage because I couldn't walk anymore.  Everytime I had a contraction I was holding onto the railing with one arm & the other gripping tightly to my mother as I desperately tried to breathe & not cry.  They checked me again.  & I had already reached 4 cm dilated!!!  I was demanding drugs as they began to admit me into Labor & Delivery by drawing blood & asking questions that I could barely answer as I couldn't function normally.  Within 20 minutes, my water broke, the contractions seemed to be one on top of the other, I was crying & shaking & FINALLY admitted.  They somehow got me into a wheel chair & drove me to the delivery room.  EVERYONE was rushing around trying to get prepared.  Kirsten was coming whether we were ready or not.

By this time, I was screaming.  Yes, I admit it, I screamed.  I even cursed at the world.  Everytime I cursed, it was immiediately followed by a sad apology to everyone there.  Just as they were about to pump some meds into my IV that they BARELY got in, the midwife said, "Stop.  It's too late."  I was terrified!  It was much too fast & much too painful for my liking.  But, by 1 I couldn't stop Kirsten anymore. I was told to push when I was ready.  & boy was I ready.  All I could think about was getting her out!  At 1:28 PM after just 4 real pushes, Kirsten was on my tummy filling the room with a beautiful cry.  It was over, I was in shock & amazement & everyone, even the nurses & my midwife, were all choked up.  I could have never asked for a better day.
