Background - Friday, May 4th 2001. Every year for the past three years, Plattsburgh State Has Held Springfest. The show has local bands as well as major bands. acts at the show have been, Our Lady Peace, Nine Days, 3 Doors Down, Shades Apart, Econoline Crush, as well as local bands like 7, Hazin' Jane, One Time, and Jim. Springfest 2001 had 7, Jim, One Time, Hazin' Jane, Shades Apart, Econoline Crush, and 3 Doors Down .
Tickets - $17.
I heard of Springfest in 2000 from people at school. Our Lady Peace was playing and I was going to go, but I had no ride and no money (I was broke after paying for the NINe Inch Nails concert). My sister went and said it was good. This time around I also heard about it from people at school. Lots of people I knew told me I should go, but again, I had no ride or money. However, the day before the show, I sold some magic cards and got $20. I called my friend Ed who was going and he gave me a ride. The day of the show, we got out of school at 10:28 (A half day). When my Dad droped me off at school, he told me shit like not to let peopel give me any drugs and shit like that. Like I really cared was he said (However, i did not do any drugs that day). After school, I went with Ed and Nick to Ed's girlfriend's house were we had to lissen to her fight with her mom for a hour and a half over if she could go to the concert or not. In the end she did not go and I bought her ticket off Ed. After that we went to Ed's house which is out in the sticks even more so that my old house. We waised the rest of the time till the show (which started at 2 pm) dying Ed's hair Blue and playing N64. Then I put on the shirt I would wear to every other concert I have been to sense . We went to the concert and on the way in, the girl who Took my ticket said she liked Tool and then said something like "only 10 days till the new album". and I asked if she had heard what it was going to sound like and she said she had a copy already and said I should come up to her dorm room and hear it (Maybe she thought I was older than I was). At any rate, the , music was already under way when I got in to the concert, held in a feild behind Plattsburgh State Collage. They had some free shit like joust, and a thing were you jump up and down on a bundgy cored, but you had to be 18 to do any of it. The first couple of bands sucked. There was hippie music, a totaly pathetic cover of "Freebird" and Jim, with their songs about beer and drinking. Finnaly, the last second stage band, Hazin' Jane was great. I was told before the show that they were good. After a day spent picking grass (no not weed), it was finnaly time to rock. The crowd really go into Hazin' Jane. They got the first mosh pit of the day going, and they played some kick-ass shit. I was Pushed from behind into the mosh pit at one point by John, an broke my glasses which I had go only a day earlier. It was the best music all day other than the Marilyn Manson and Ozzy songs I heard on the P.A before Hazin' Jane took the stage. After Hazin' Jane, The first main stage band went on. Econoline Crush, I was told by my friend Joe was good, but I was not Inpressed by them. I was not in the crowd for them because I went to the collage book store and got food. I lissend from afar and I don't really know if they got any mosh pits, but I don't think they did. Their cover on Nine Inch Nails "Head Like A Hole" was decent. By this time, people had really started to show up. Next onstage was Shades Apart, they were a good band. Nothing special though. Last was the band most people were there to see, 3 Doors Down. They were better than I thought they were going to be. they got some moshing going and the crowd was at their peek in numbers. I saw alot of the jocks from school there at that point. I was able to push my way to the front after about 3 songs. It was funny when the lead singer got pissed at a person that throw a coin at him. Over all it was a great show and Plattsburgh State did a vary good job putting on the show. However, they had some problems with people getting hurt in the mash pits and it tied up the hospital. |
