This is my Section for one of the greatest bands ever,  TOOL! Tool is one of the best bands of the nineties and has stood the test of time. Maynard, Danny, Adam, and Justin know how to rock, both on CD and live. They are one of the best live acts ever. In the age of Jock-Rock and Psydo-Punk, Tool stand out from the crowd. Playing music that is a far cry from the Limp Bizkits of the world, yet the can still top the charts. There latest album "Lateralus" (which I Biked 25 miles one way to buy the day it came out) took the number one spot on the Billboard Music chart it's first week and it was bumped of by Staind's "Break The Cycle" (a great album) Tool has been around from the 1992  grunge era which is longer than most bands. Tool's first hit was "Sober", and the video for it was the modle for almost all future Tool videos. Artsy, claymation (exept Scism) and featuring no band members. Tool do few Interveiws and photo shoots. Tool has been of of the most criiticly praised bands of 2001. The artsy, dark style of Proggressive rock is no sharp contrast with the rest of todays music world. Almost every time I go somewere with a tool shirt (exept at the Tool concert I went to) someone has commented on Tool.  At Local Rock fests Spring Fest and Pondstock,  I had on a shrit with patches of many bands and both times, a person has singled out the Tool patch and told me that they love Tool. If you have never heard Tool, you should check them out (and what the hell is wrong with you?)

Lateralus, which I biked 50 Miles in thre blinding rain in -20 deg. weather (ok it was not raining or -20 deg. out) to get it, the day it came out, was Tool's first album in 5 years. My thoughts on the cd were that after 5 years, Tool was still Tool (a good thing). The album was not as heavy as I hoped it would be, but there is too much heavy music out there right now (Slipknot is heavy enough for 3 or 4 bands). My first run through the  cd was with my friend Brendan (Another big Tool Fan) on the day It came out (5-15-01). The lead off track "The Grudge" made a great first inmpresion of the album, however the album slows to a crawl till the first single "Scism" The album picks up and gets good from there on. Tool covers old ground and brakes new ground as well. the second single "Lateralus" (the title track) is a Prog. rock masterpeice. This album has put Tool at the top of there game, and dispite the fact that the album is long and drags in parts, it still rocks. It may not be an album made for you to rock too in your car, but albums like that are a dime a dozen. Lateralus is the best and most important album in proggressive rock since Pink Floyd's timeless classic "The Wall". If you are looking for a great prog. rock to mellow out too (or get High too) this one is for you.
Salival- "Think For Yourself", "Question Authority", that kicks off Tool's sort of Live Album. My first run through the album left me disapointed. It lacked any of my fav. songs and had none of the hits. However, in time it grew on me. With live versions of 3 old songs and 4 new songs, it made for nice ear candy till Lateralus came out. It was a taste of things to come from Tool. Songs like "You Lied" and "No Quarter" may as well been off Lateralus. Its a good CD but more for a hardcore Tool fan.
AEnima- My fav. Tool album, well rounded with equal doses of soft and heavy. Great music and lyrics. Hard rock songs like "Stinkfist" and "Eulogy", mixed with mellow songs like "46 & 2", and of course the 'mellow out when high' 14 minute long "Third Eye". It is a must have and a good place to start for new comers to Tool.
Undertow- I think this is Tool's weakest album. Other than "Sober" (one of my fav. songs) it really has nothing. Its not super heavy, nor is it really proggressive, nor is it, dare I say, catchy. It lacks anything to set it apart it does have some moderatly good songs like "Intolerance" and "Prison Sex" but is weak as an album. I would give it a B-.
Opiate- Tool's first album and a good one at that. It is not all that heavy, and is not all that Proggressive, but it is a cheap thrill. Catchy at times with good hooks. It is one of the best EP's ever (up there with NIN's Broken) it is a cheap CD too. I picked it up for $12, but it only has 6 songs.
