02-09-08 Heritage Eagles Fly High In Buffulo Wild Wings Tourny Both the Heritage Academy Eagles Boys and Girls basketball teams flew into St. James this past weekend looking to fly high. And that they did!  Heritage won the tourny as the Boys defeated Barrie School on Friday and a tough St. James team on Sat.. Big man Hamiton Stamper took home MVP honors as point guard Cody Butts dribbled and passed his way onto the all-tournament team.  With the trophy Heritage was also awarded a spot in the NBC25 top 10 Boys Basketball Poll as they are now 17-2 on the season.
The Girls did not dunk the ball as Stamper did but they more than dunked their opponents!  Winning both games by about 20 points each!  Queen Annes School and St. James had no answers for Morgan McIntire as she dumped her usual 20+ points on both teams and took home the MVP Honor for the girls.  Bri Dorsey was again a very balanced threat for the eagles as she was named to the all-tournament team.
They may need to change the name of this tournament to the Wild Eagle Wings Tourny if Heritage continues being successful there.  Heritage will now concentrate on the MDCC as they look to actually bring home the bacon (or banners) this year.  Go Eagles!
02-12-08  Junior High Tournament set to be played at Heritage This coming Saturday will probably be one to remember at Heritage Academy as the best Junior High teams in the league travel to Hagerstown for ultimate bragging rights and the MDCC Championship banner.  The Heritage JH teams are good again this year but they do have some stiff competition.  The Heritage girls lost their first game in a very long time to a good Shalom team just the other day. This put them in a tie for the number one seed.  Other than Shalom and Heriatge on the girls side there is not much more to talk about.  It will probably come down to a hard fought game between the two for the title.
The boys teams are much more evenly matched.  Faith (Who Heriatge has beat already) takes the top spot at
8-2 and if Heritage wins against Grace Thursday they will be tied with CVCS for the 2 spot with 7-3 records.  Grace, and Shalom are both very good teams as well and we shall see who takes the 4th spot in the tourny.  Heritage has lost as of late but have been stellar at home.  Heritage has not lost a league game at home this season and they hope to continue that success this weekend.  The potential is there for a clean sweep and four championship banners this year but it will take some stellar play from the Eagles to fly away with them!   GO EAGLES
02-16-08 Heritage Junior High Teams "FINISH IT" Win MDCC Titles A quote from coach Barney was written on the white board in Mrs. Clarks room before the CVCS playoff game on Saturday morning and it read... "This is the beginning of the end... Finish It!"  After the Heritage JH Boys defeated Faith that night for the title, players from that team erased the quote and made one of their own... "This is the End of the End...
We Finished It!"  As coach Barney stood on the side line in the championship game and realized that his team was about to win the title, tears began to well up in his eyes.  "I am proud of you" were his words to the team.  He told them each one by one as time expired.  Coach Barney was told that this would be a "Down" year for this team seeing they lost two key components in Clark and (Troy) Cosner.  Coach Barney was determined though, and that determination was carried out by the Champions.  "They never gave up and never got discouraged.  They were determined to fight "All for the glory of God" until they finished it."  says Coach.  The Heritage Academy Junior High Boys did this as a team and they all had a huge role in this years success.  In the early Game the boys beat CVCS in a sloppy game 22-20 and went on to a convincing 32-19 win against Faith in the Final.  The JH Boys completed the season 10-6 overall and 9-3 in their conference play.  Most importantly they brought home the bacon or banner if I may.   Way to go Guys!!  You Finished It!!
The Girls JH team could have also folded under pressure.  Loosing to Shalom the last week of the regular season could have put a damper on their spirits, but it obviously didnt.  The Junior High Girls had pretty smooth sailing the past few years except for that one pesky wave that always seems to rock their boat.... Shalom.  On Saturday morning Heritage rolled over CVCS 40-23. A team effort was very evident in this game as 9 girls slashed the scoring column for the Lady Eagles.  In the Championship game they encountered the wave... Shalom!  Heritage started out well and took the lead early, only to see that lead go under as the full court pressure of Shalom put them on tilt.  Again these girls could have given up and drowned under this wave of pressure, but their resilience shown through.  In the second half it began as an up and down ride, but Heritage kept kicking and got their heads above water.  The Lady Eagles took the lead for good in the 4th quarter and never looked back as they sailed away with their 4th strait title over Shalom... Winning 31-26.  The JH Girls finished the season 13-1 overall and 9-1 in the MDCC. They are now 63-2 over the past 4 seasons (winning each title).  Way to go Girls!   Keep on keepin on!!
02-21-08  Heritage Eagles Fly Over Flames.... Avoid Getting Burned The MDCC Semi-Finals landed on the Grace Academy gym floor one night earlier than expected but the Eagles came out soaring regardless!  Both teams faced the Shalom Flames and both teams put out those flames.  For the girls it was a spring shower... as for the boys, well... it was a dumping!  The Lady Eagles who were trailing at the half by two points, took flight in the third quarter as they used a 12 to 3 frame to secure the victory.  Shalom who was down by as many as 14 in the 4th quarter dedcided not to use the foul method when they cut the lead to 10 with 1:45 remaining in the game. Instead they played defense and watched their flame burn out.  Morgan McIntire downed 21 in the game as Bri Dorsey added 13.  The Heritage Girls will face CVCS on Saterday at 1:00 pm in the Championship game as they look to fly home with the Conference Title.
Big game.. big man plays big time to dump Shalom.  Hamilton Stamper that is!  Ham was 8 for 11 from the foul line and scored 20 points.  Shalom never really got things going in this game as they lost every quarter and lost sight of the banner in a 56-24 stomping by Heritage. As if the 40-18 lead in the beginning of the 4th was not enough, Steven Barthalow stole the ball and began to run.  Running behind him was Stamper on the fast break.
Communications were made as the backboard bounce and dunk was in order.  Ham slammed the ball and the door on Shalom.  Steven added 7 points on the night.  A big key to the rout was downtown (Andrew) Hendershot, who poured his own bucket on the flames with four 3-pointers as he finished with 14 points.  Troy Cosner came off the bench and pivoted his way to 6 for the eagles.  The boys will also look to finish the task at hand on Saterday as they face CVCS at 2:30 for MDCC bragging rights and poissibly/ maybe... the clean sweep in the MDCC for Heritage
