1/3 Heritage leaves only smoldering coals as they put out the Shalom Flames Four games... Four wins! The Shalom Varsity Boys rolled into Hagerstown with high hopes as they were the only MDCC team still unbeaten in conference play. The only problem was... they hadnt played the Heritage Academy Eagles! Shaloms defense is always good and that was evident in the opening period as Heritage only managed two field goals to post a 6-5 lead. The second quarter was the game changer as Heritage rolled with 23 points to all but put Shalom in a bottomless pit. Shaloms D was good again in the second half but the Eagles D was better as Heritage improved to 6-0 with a 45-25 win. The varsity girls for Heritage had little trouble as they beat Shalom 39-24 to improve to 5-4 overall and 4-2 in MDCC play. The Junior High games were very similar in nature. Both teams for Heritage held double didget points at one point in the game but found theirselves clawing to victorys at the end. The JH Teams for Shalom did not give up and they made things very exciting and nerve racking to say the least. The boys team for Heritage was up by 14 at the end of the third quarter and held on to win 32-28 to improve to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The girls game was one to remember. The HA Junior High Girls were preparing for Shalom all season as they knew that they would be one of the only teams to give them a run this year. At first it looked as if it was another usual rout for Heritage as they were up big early but the Shalom girls came storming back in the second half to make it too close for comfort for coach Henson. The Heritage girls were determined though, and flew off with the 27-20 win.

1/6 Nailbiters at MSD Tournament... Girls Win, Boys Fall Short If you were looking for the usual blowout wins from Heritage this weekend, you were very disappointed. As I walked into the boys first game on Friday night against CHEN, Heritage was down 7-0. CHEN could not miss in the first half as they led big for a long time and ended the half up by 2. CHEN sank eight 3-pointers most of them in the first half in route to a high scoring affair. It seemed to me that the Heritage D just wore out Chen in the second half as the Eagles won 73-64. Steven Barthalow scored 26 and Hamilton Stamper was very active with 23 points and 13 rebounds in the win. On Sat. in the Championship game Heritage faced the much improved CVCS team and CVCS did not miss in the first half as they jumped out to a big lead. But Heritage again rebounded to keep it close the rest of the way. Heritage lost their first game of the season 60-57 to claim 2nd place in the Oriole Classic. Was it nerves or maybe it was three games in three days that proved to be the difference. One thing I do know is they gave it all they had. Seven Barthalow was named to the All Tournament team and Hamilton Stamper was named the MVP of the tourny. On Friday night the Heritage Academy girls played and undefeated MSD team as they were 9-0 going into the game. MSD was also aware of the talent in Morgan McIntire but she refused to be stopped as she posted a normal girls score herself with 38 points. Heritage was impressive as they topped MSD 62-49. On Sat. the girls also faced rival CVCS in the Championship game. Heritage lost to them earlier in the year with only five players to use. This game was a little different! Not many points were scored but CVCS' Miranda Payne did manage to record her 2000th point. For CVCS though it was not enough as Heritage took home first place as they won 29-26. The game was tied with 7 seconds remaining as Heritage took the ball out. The inbound pass was to McIntire and she dribbled through defenders to just past half court. With only 2 ticks left on the clock she threw it up and banked it in for the 3 point win. These games were team efforts for Heritage as their defense was great all the way through. Bri Dorsey continued her stealing ways as she always seemed to be at the right place at the right time. And the supporting cast for the Lady Eagles was big in each possesion as they fought to the end for the title. Bri Dorsey was named to the All Tournamet Team and Morgan McIntire was Named MVP of the Oriole Classic. The Heritage Girls are now 7-4 and they will look to continur their hot streak against Grace on Tuesday night.

1/8 Heritage Eagles Fly Home With Four More Wins... This season of basketball at Heritage Academy is looking to be the best in a long while. I hate to talk too soon but the JH Girls won again by a landslide last night against Grace Academy and the JH Girls at Heritage are yet again undefeated so far this season. The JH Boys beat a tall and athletic Grace team last night 37-24 on the way to their third straight win. They improved to 5-1 overall and 4-1 in MDCC play. The JH Boys for Heritage were down after one period 8-5 but their quickness and endurance carried them to the convincing victory. Bryce Nigh was key in last nights victory as he was forced into the role of leader in most of the first half after two quick fouls by starting point guard Chad Lowry. Lee Clark also did a good job off of the bench in time of need. This was a big conference game and every player played amazing. Robbie Martin and Bryce Boyd led a balanced attack from the eagles with eight points a peice. Michael Donmoyer and Chad Lowry each added six points in the win. A big play at the conclusion of the game is when reserve Christain Strickler set a beautiful screen for Peter Therriens two point field goal. "I was very proud of all of the players effort tonight," said Coach Barney. "They all stepped up when they were called upon and we won a great game, against a good team." The Varsity teams also continued their winning ways as the Herald Mail describes below. Heritage Basketball is now a combined 26-6 on the season! Go Eagles! No Saving Grace in Sweep by Heritage

1/10 You Herad Me... Heritage Falls to MSD A home, non-conference matchup against teams that appeared to be beatable was just the opposite of that on Thursday night for the Heritage Academy varsity basketball teams. The boys were without starting forward Andrew Harrell and therefore were downed in a close game 58-56 on Thursday night. That was not the only reason the game was lost. MSD jumped out to an early lead only to see that erased by halftime on the heels of some good outside shooting by Heritage. The Eagles were slowed by foul trouble as well, but it seemed that MSD just wanted the game more as they played extreamly well down the stretch to seal the victory. The girls game was a rematch of a high scoring affair last Friday night in which Heritage won. Tonight was was a whole new ball game. This game rendered half the points scored on Friday, and the outcome was a loss for Heritage instead of another win. The MSD girls were determined to hold McIntire in check tonight and that they did. She soared in the first meeting with 38 points. Heritage squandered an eight point lead which they had in the first quarter and were downed by a final of 37-29. The MSD girls brought it tonight and they also took it home. Both teams for Heritage look to rebound tomorrow night against cross town foe Broadfording.
