FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS DURING AN BEHAVIOR INTERVIEW

Just as a resume can be improved by careful planning, preparation for the interview can have a huge positive impact on the outcome.  You should anticipate questions you may be asked during the interview.  Listen carefully to what the interviewer asks and make sure you fully understand the question before beginning to answer.

Listed below are questions frequently asked in a job interview:

1.                  In what type of position are you most interested?

(respond with the kind of function you like and do best -- and then describe a position related to those skills.  Tell the employer what you do best, not just the job titles you have held before.)

2.                  What jobs have you held and why did you leave your last job?

(Give a summary description of each job.  If there were any problems, do not give an answer that reflects badly on the previous employer.

3.                  Why do you think you would like to work for our company?

(Find out all you can about the company in advance so that you can show specific interest in working there.)

4.                  Tell me something about yourself.

(This can be answered by clarifying your abilities and experience in relation with what the employer is looking for.)

5.                  We have many qualified applicants.  What do you think we should hire you for this job?

(Convey that you are not in a position to evaluate the other candidates, but that you can answer well about yourself.  Summarize why you believe that your background, experience, and interest in the job equip you to handle the work well.)
