Lordaeron occupies the northern portion of Azeroth's eastern continent. Once the proud home of the Kingdom of Lordaeron, the events of the Third War and the subsequent race to the Frozen Throne have turned the land into a realm of death and sorrow.
The Capital City of Lordaeron once stood as the largest human city on the continent until its destruction by the Scourge. In this city, Arthas returned from his trip to Northrend bearing Frostmourne. As King Terenas welcomed his son home, Arthas brutally murdered his father and assumed the throne. His next act was to turn the city over to the Scourge; a blow that the already-weakened Alliance could not stand.
Along with the ruins of Dalaran, the ruined capital serves as mute testament to the horror of the Legion and the Scourge.
Beneath the Capital City lies the Undercity, a sprawling series of passageways that serve as home to Sylvanas Windrunner's Undead faction, known as the Forsaken.
To the north of the Undercity lies Tirisfal Glades, a woodland once known for its plentiful bounty and magical energies. Now, however, the Undead plague of both the Scourge and Forsaken has transformed Tirisfal into a realm of shadow. The corruption of Tirisfal has earned it the name "Plaguelands".
South-east of the Plaguelands lies the ruined fortress of Durnholde. This is where Thrall was raised by Adeleas Blackmoore, who hoped to use the slave to seize control of the Horde and topple the Alliance. This area is also where Thrall led the Horde on its exodus to Kalimdor just prior to the Third War.
The magical city of Dalaran was once home to the Kirin Tor, a powerful group of Human and High Elf mages who used their powers for the good of the Alliance. However, after Arthas' defection, the Death Knight led the Undead army to the gates of the city and, when the Archmage Antonidas refused to surrender, assisted Kel'Thuzad the Lich as he summoned Archimonde the Defiler into the world of Azeroth. Archimonde then obliterated the city with his demonic magics, and the Kirin Tor was annihilated. Both Alliance and Scourge forces continually fight for control of Dalaran, as its ruins are believed to contain valuable magical artifacts.
