TRAINING NOTES

As a new troop leader (01), co-leader (02), or group leader (04) you are required to take Basic Troop Leadership I, II, and III. There is NO COST to attend any training for Basic Leadership, unless you use the Home Study.

Leaders changing age-levels need to take Basic Troop Leadership III for the appropriate age-level OR may choose to take a Basic Troop Leadership for Bridging Leaders course. This course is designed for experienced leaders.

Outdoor Education is required for volunteers in charge of any activity that involves girls in packing gear, planning menus, pitching tents, and cooking over a fire or portable stove for an outdoor camping experience. It includes the safety considerations for outings. The training involes one planning session, a home assignment, and an overnight camping trip. Because of space, we ask that only two adults per troop register for the course. The cost for food at the overnight camping trip is $19, to be mailed in with the registration. Financial Assistance is available, but will be awarded only after the course has been completed. The required resource book Outdoor Education in Girl Scouting. (c. 1966) costs $9.50. You may purchase this book through course registration or through the council's Girl Scout shops.

Outdoor Education Update is required every 6 years.
