Leader's Corner

YOUR ROLE as a LEADER

As stated in the Position Agreement, your responsibilities include:
  • Staying informed on what is happening in Girl Scouting locally, nationally, and worldwide by attending Service Unit Meetings.
  • Being familiar with and following the required health and safety practices.
  • At all times exhibiting non-discriminatory attitudes and behavior in all internal and external working relationships.
  • Contributing toward the Council Affirmative Action guidelines and its commitment to valuing diversity by ensuring that the membership reaches out to all racial/ethnic, religious, socio-economic groups and persons with disabilities. Providing equal access to ALL.
As a leader, you are responsible for upholding the morals and values as stated in both the Girl Scout Promise and Law. This includes following the standards as provide in Safety Wise. Some of these include:
  • Program Standard 1: When placing girls, priority should be given to those girls returning and/or bridging to another age level. Girls are placed based on age-level and availability. Leaders can not "choose" their own girls based on racial/ethnic, religious, or socio-economic differences.
  • Program Standard 19: Girl Scout troops/groups should reflect the diversity of socio-economic, racial/ethnic, cultural, religious, and disability groups in the community. Troops and groups should include girls from different age and grade levels.
  • Program Standard 20: Girls should be able to participate in groupings large enough to provide experience in self-government and in groupings small enough to allow for development of the individual girl. Leaders should follow Safety Wise guidelines dealing with the ratio of girls to adults and the recommended sizes for troops and groups.
