Kenneth Rexroth




Kenneth Rexroth was born on December 22nd, 1905 in South Bend, Indiana. He began writing and being in the public eye quite a while before the Beat Generation came about. Rexroth helped found the San Francisco Poetry Center, and received the California Literature Silver Medal Award for "In What Hour" in 1941. At the age of seventeen, Rexroth became a writer and painter. He helped by lending his name to the Six Gallery Readings in October of 1955, though he himself did not consider himself a member of this younger generation. Rexroth died on June 6th, 1982 in Montecito, California.
