Charles Bukowski was born on August 16th, 1920 in Andernach, Germany. He came to the United States with his family when he was three years old. He grew up in Los Angeles, California. He made his home for most of his life in San Pedro, California. He published his first story at the age of 24; He began publishing poetry at the age of 35. He roamed the country for 20 years, working odd jobs for 10 years of this time period. The other 10 years, he worked for the United States Postal Service in Los Angeles. His life bordered insanity and death much of the time. His writings were published in small amounts, and are difficult to impossible to find. In the 1980s, Black Sparrow Press found them and published them. He has forty books in print. Bukowski died on March 9th, 1994 in San Pedro, California.
