Description: 
Office career research utilizing the Internet and a Webquest

Goals
Students will explore careers in the office environment and become an expert on one particular job.

Objectives: 
1.  Students will work with two other students as a group to research information about office careers.  2.  Students will actively participate in the webquest.  3.  Students will create a multimedia presentation of the information they gathered in the webquest.

Prerequisites: 
Knowledge of mulitmedia platforms (Hyperstudio, Powerpoint, Ezedia, etc.)


Materials:

  • Computers with multimedia software (Hyperstudio, Powerpoint, Ezedia, etc.)
  • Internet access

Lesson Procedure

  • Introduction
    • Students will be introduced to different jobs in the office careers field.
    • Inspiration will be used to introduce the subject. 
  • Main Activities
    • Students will explore three different job descriptions.
    • Students will explore the position of receptionist using the PowerPoint presentation as a guide. They will take a typing test, get acquainted with telephone etiquette and learn basic customer service techniques.  Powerpoint presentation:  Receptionist
    • Students will participate in a customer service role play.
    • Students will complete the Careers webquest.
      • Make a list of ten careers which would best suit your personality type.
      • From a list of fastest growing occupations, mark which occupations on your list are among the fastest growing occupations.
      • Each person in your group will pick one office occupation from their list and research the career.
      • Each person in your group will decide if the chosen career would be best for themselves and why.  They will defend that decision to their group.
      • Your team will make a multimedia presentation to the class in which you will explain the chosen occupation for each person, and justify that choice.   
  • Closure/Conclusion
    •  Give a career presentation to the class using multimedia software.
  • Follow up lessons/Activities
    • Students will give feedback to classmates.
