Metals
The bulk of my work is done in aluminum. There are several reasons for this. It is light and easy to work. It is rust proof with a bright finish. In most cases it is more then strong enough. Like other soft metals, aluminum may leave a grey powder on your skin or clothing. This is harmless and in most cases will not stain. To avoid these grey marks it is advisable that you wash your aluminum from time to time. This can be done with a mild dish soap, or even with regular soap when taking a shower. Cleaning will keep your aluminum bright, and your skin free of marks. As an alternative you can have your aluminum items boiled. This creates an oxide coating on the metal that will prevent grey marks without needing to be cleaned. Boiled aluminum has a white color. It also takes on a texture similar to steel. Boiling is useful for creating an aged look on maile. There is a picture of boiled rings below. Aluminum can also be anodized into almost any color. I have no facilities to do this myself, however I can purchase colored rings if you want them in a design. Galvanized steel weighs approximately three times as much as aluminum, but it much stronger. Highly rust resistant it will change color over time, from a bright, almost blue color, to a dull grey. Blued steel is available on request. These rings have been treated to give a dark, blue/black color. Nice for adding a little contrast in a design. Most of my work is in aluminum and galvanized steel, however I do some work in other metals. Stainless is the heaviest, strongest metal available. It is very shiny. Brass is nearly as strong, and has a bright, gold color. Copper has a dark orange tone. Precious metals such as gold, silver, and bronze are available. I am looking around for a good distributor of titanium. There will likely be an increased time to produce items from these metals (as well as from anodized aluminum or blued steel) since I do not keep them in stock and will have to order them. If the demand is great enough I may start keeping some amounts of these specialty metals on hand.
