Video games. This is a pure example of the lack of maturity that the American society upholds. These childish games are prominent in the lives of many of the kids of my school, and I refer to them as kids simply because they are virgin to many of the situations that they now should be facing. Instead they are stressing themselves with such worries as when they will defeat level 9 of Diablo. Our parents spent their spare time reading and exploring their world, not some digital fairy tale. The enormous industrial advancement that took place during their age is due only to the information and determination that they detained. They were not afraid to explore new things, this is what led to the vast discoveries that they were responsible for. Out infantilism is bewildering. It is a common belief that in foreign �less-developed� countries the people are no longer virgin (sexually) at very early stages in their life. I can personally attribute that this is in fact the case in the places that I have visited. This shows that although Americans have advanced dramatically in the technological world, they are nearly diminished in the social as well as sexual aspects. It upsets me that other countries are now more physically and mentally mature than America.
I found it incredibly hard to leave religion out of my rants, so although I will not completely bash it, I will attribute my opinions. If you wish to speak to me about the topic, I would be happy to spend some time getting deep into the issue. The basic thing is the fact that humans have created religion. It is simply a creation to add hope and security to ones who are helpless in providing these for themselves. Sure I would love to believe that we all go to heaven and live in peace and play our little harps and ride on white unicorns. Unfortunately, heaven is a grown up Tooth Fairy; it is simply invented by man to please man. As children we believe that there is a little woman that picks up our teeth and gives us money, then we grow up and �mature� yet we still believe that somehow when we die our soul will survive. Soul, what is that? The human body is made up of chemicals; similar to those of monkeys, mongeese, bumblebees, amoeba, you name it. I cannot imagine that we have a soul and they do not. And if they dont, then who does? Apes, Australopithecus, Neandrathals, i mean, where was the exact point when God decided that as of now, they WILL go to heaven.
Anyway, there is a definite need for people to relax. We add more stress to our lives than there needs to be. If your parents are the ones that are forcing you to do this, you have to confront them and explain to them that they need to let you grow. You have to start being responsible for your own decisions. A parent that is still responsible for reminding you, or worse, forcing you to do you homework is tremendously holding you back from developing. Go outside, get some fresh air, for once just sit down and watch the stars. There are so many open doors, why confine yourself to only several. No matter how bad the situation may seem, you control your destiny. Do not live in hope of bettering yourself tommorow, instead better yourself today and don't sit there waiting for tommorow to come.
