Gordon Young’s Computer Virus Poster Index

This poster started out as a series of short articles

I wrote for the Computer Paper in 1991.

The articles were serialized in two issues and proved hugely popular

With the magazine’s audience. I got fan mail from accountants.

Those were simpler days. Happy, optimistic days.

I took the text of those articles, rewrote them with an eye to making

Them as easy and simple as possible to read. I organized the information

in a modular design, small self-sufficient bodies of text. The eye could wander over it looking for a place to start reading

I meant it to be displayed as a wall chart. I met a brilliant graphics artist named Andreas Nothinger, who happened to live a few blocks away from me. He took the text and put together a demonstration module using his Macintosh system..

These pages are scans of that demonstration model of so many years ago. Some of the information is quite dated, referring to the DOS-based systems of the day. However, I have put it up on the web for old time’s sake.

The files are formatted as Adobe Acrobat .pdf documents, and are meant to be printed out in black and white on four separate pages, then pieced together on an office corkboard or wall. The files are quite large, to provide enough detail for good print quality. You can adjust the printer controls in Acrobat Reader to make sure your copy prints out properly.
