Joan Jonker books about before and during the war in liverpool.  It is about the family's who were left to survive and how they coped with the lack of food.  and how they survived with the bombing's, and some people were left with no homes but all the neighbours always helped each other.  There are some stories about how people coped with getting married and having family's .  Some stories have a few books about the same family.  There are about twenty books from the same author,  they are very interesting to read, Once you start to read one you will want to read all of them.
