Church bells rang out across the city.  Ships in the Mersey blew their sirens, and lines of happy people danced the conga.  It was VE day and the whole population of Liverpool had turned out to celebrate.  Eileen Gillmoss with a smile forever lighting up her face and a joke never far from her lips, was the life and soul of the party.  oday was the day she prayed for.  After five long years, her prisoner-of-war husband Bill would be coming home.  But Eileens dream turned to dust when the man who came back from the was is a complete strangerto her, and she has to summen up all strength to see her through each day.  Eileen, who is always there to lend a shoulder to cry on, is now the one in need.  But noone can give her what she craves most...her old husband backwhere he belongs, as the man of the house.
