A Handful of Magic
by Stephen Elboz
What do you get when you cross a wizard, the royal prince and a den full of werewolves? There is only one answer. Trouble!
Kit, a young wizard, sneaks out one night with his best friend, Henry, the royal prince. The go to see the Queen's newest animal: a werewolf! The boys start playing on the ledge of the wall that keeps in the werewolves. Suddenly, Henry falls in! Henry has to be rescued and cured from the werewolf poison. The Queen calls on her man of science, Stafford Sparks. Sparks begins using his newest invention, a machine that gives off painful shocks of electricity to get rid of the werewolf posion. Kit doesn't trust Stafford Sparks and his machine. He thinks they are only hurting Henry. Kit believes he could cure Henry with his magic, but he is frustrated because the law has outlawed magic in the castle. Kit has a plan and it starts by helping Henry escape from the castle. What Kit doesn't know is that instead of getting better, things are about to change for the worse!
This is a great book that takes you on adventures all through London.
A Handful of Magic by Stephen Elboz makes you want to keep reading until you discover what happens to Kit and Henry.  I recommend this exciting book!
Foggy Day
By Nicholas
A foggy day
     has come.
Where the clouds
     hug the ground,
The birds
sit in the trees quietly watching,
Everything
     is wet,
Everything
     is still,
Except for bare branches
     slowly dripping dew drops
     one by one.
A misty day.
Math Challenge
The past two months I have been having fun doing logic problems. Here's one that I made up!

Santa brought gifts for Mary, Paul, Joseph and Mike. During the night the tags fell off the gifts! Help the kids tell whose present is whose with the clues left behind. You need to find what present each kid received, what color wrapping paper it had and what color ribbon it had. Good Luck!

     1. There are four colors of paper and bows: red, green, yellow and purple and no bow is the same color as the wrap.

     2. Mary wants the stuffed dog, but it does not have a yellow bow.

     3. Paul's gift is in the red wrap, but not with a green bow.

     4. Mike does not want Legos and his gift does not have a green bow.

     5. Paul and Joseph do not want a board game, but Joseph's gift has a purple bow.

     6. The board game does not have purple wrap.

     7. The green wrap has a purple bow.

     8. Joseph does not want the Game Boy.
Answer to the Sept/Oct Math Challenge: The better deal was in Iceland - just barely!! And they were expensive cups of hot chocolate, but they were worth it!!

In Iceland, the hot chocolate cost $6.27 per cup (420 Krona divided by 67 Krona per dollar)

In Paris, the hot chocolate cost $6.30 per cup (First find the cost of one cup of hot chocolate: 12.40 euro divided by 2.5 because there were 2.5 cups in the pitcher. That's 4.96 euro per cup. Then multiply 4.96 by $1.27 per euro.)
