Let's Hear It!! Vanderbilt 4-0
Senior quarterback Jay Cutler broke two records tonight before a season-high crowd of 38,446 in the teams Best start in Almost 50 years. The senior quarterbacks 277 total-yard performance carried his career total to 7,956, placing him in lone ownership of the school record. His five-yard pass to Erik Davis in the second quarter also moved him to first in career touchdown passes (42). Two of Cutlers teammates crossed the century mark tonight: Cassen Jackson-Garrison ran for a career-high 119 yards and his second career touchdown, and Earl Bennett caught 11 passes for 124 yards. Jeff Jennings, who entered the game with an SEC-leading five rushing touchdowns, ran for one and caught another to take his season total to seven. Senior wide receiver Eric Davis caught seven passes for 77 yards and a touchdown. Freshman wide receiver George Smith also caught his first touchdown pass tonight. Kicker Bryant Hahnfeldt kicked a 43-yard field goal
The Vanderbilt football team is off to a 3-0 star thanks in part to timely big plays made by its defense. One Commodore has a knack for making those plays in clutch situations. Senior linebacker Moses Osemwegie (Nashville, Tenn.) was named the Southeastern Conferences Defensive Player of the Week after making his second-straight game-ending big play. After intercepting a pass to end the Arkansas rally last week and secure a 28-24 victory, Osemwegie again caused a turnover to dash Mississippis hopes of a comeback in a 31-23 VU win.
