One of two men who fired pistols from inside an elevator on the 10th floor of Vanderbilt University's Morgan Hall dormitory early Sunday has now been identified as Carlos Andrecus Branch, 26, who is last known to have lived on Morena Street in Nashville. Arrest warrants charging Branch with aggravated assault, felony reckless endangerment and unlawful possession of a gun on school property have been issued.

Photographs and surveillance video released by the police department and broadcast on Tuesday evening led to the identification of Branch. Tips were received from citizens who reported that the gunman in the white shirt with hair in braids was Carlos Branch. Detectives on Wednesday confirmed that information and obtained the arrest warrants.

The identity of the second gunman, who was wearing a dark shirt and has short hair, has not yet been determined.

Anyone seeing Carlos Branch or knowing his whereabouts is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME. He should be considered armed and dangerous.
Carlos Branch, of Nashville, identified by Metro Police as one of two men involved in a shooting at a Vanderbilt University dorm last Sunday at 2 a.m., surrendered to Metro Police yesterday.

Branch, 26, according to detectives, was involved in the incident in which Vanderbilt football player George Smith was shot in the arm. The other suspect has not yet been apprehended. Both men had been asked to leave a party being held in the dorm, following Vanderbilts victory over Richmond at Vanderbilt Stadium.

The injuries to Smiths right arm were not life-threatening. However, he is not expected to play in Saturdays game against Middle Tennessee State, scheduled for 6 p.m. at Vanderbilt Stadium. Smith was treated at Vanderbilt Hospital later Sunday and released.

Branch was held on $50,000 bond.
