| In 1998, Hollywood attempted their own intepretation of the King of the Monsters with Godzilla. While the creature in the film is identified as Godzilla, it has since become it's own monster, Zilla. But the traditional Godzilla made it's comeback in the following year, 1999. Launching a series of films taking place in seperate continuities, Godzilla 2000 left the background of the Godzilla featured in the dark. The Godzilla featured has been a menace for quite some time, and appears time and time again. The military plans to combat Godzilla using new weapon technology, but to no avail. Godzilla's regeneration ability is too powerful. However, when an ancient U.F.O. surfaces from several millenia underneath the sea, it attempts to clone Godzilla's regenerative cells and turn whatever's inside into the most powerful being in the universe. The U.F.O. defeats Godzilla, but the beast retreats in order to fight another day. When that day arises, so did Godzilla from Tokyo Bay. He challenged the U.F.O. to a final battle, where Godzilla emerged victorious. However, the formless alien being inside mutates into the fierce Orga to challenge Godzilla and clone itself into the new monster supreme. Not impressed, Godzilla willingly accepts and battles Orga head to head. Orga is killed, trying to swallow Godzilla whole, as Godzilla lets out a blast of radiaton breath inside the creature's maw. Godzilla spends the rest of his evening laying waste to Tokyo, leaving mankind confused as to just who's side he's on. The new continuity of 2000's Godzilla X Megaguirus showed Godzilla raiding Japan three times in the past: 1954, 1966, and 1996. Each time Godzilla attacked Japan's nuclear power plant, appearantly attracted by the power. The military, desperate to end Godzilla's reign of terror, designed a new weapon, Dimension Tide. This weapon would create a temporary controlled black hole which would transport Godzilla into another dimension. However, during tests of the weapon, massive insects snuck through to our dimension. During an attempt to use the weapon on Godzilla, these insects swarmed over him, blocking the targeting system. It was used anyway, but it was not aimed properly. Fleeing the swarm of insects attacking him, Godzilla retreated into the sea. He later surfaced to do battle with the giant queen of the insects, Megaguirus. Godzilla defeated her and her many minions, but that only ment he was free to continue his path of destruction. The opportunity to use Dimenstion Tide was seized, and this time it hit Godzilla directly. Godzilla disappeared, and Japan was safe. Or did the weapon only succeed in burying the mighty monster? Continuity was restarted yet again in 2001's all-out melee Godzilla; Mothra; King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack. GMK was the first film of the new Millennium series to embrace the original Godzilla, King of the Monsters into it's continuity as well. The year is 2004, and Godzilla is long thought dead, yet the military has planned for his return should the time come. And sure enough, 50 years after his "death," Godzilla rises again to leave Japan in ruins. However, Godzilla's reign is challenged by the three mystical Guardian Monsters. The first is Baragon, who challenges the savage beast solo in the countryside. Baragon fought with all his might, but Godzilla emerged victorious, vaporizing the Guardian Monster with his radiation breath. Godzilla continued to attack Japan, despite the efforts of the military to stop him. Finally, as Godzilla assaulted Yokohama, the final two Guardian Monsters appeared, Mothra and Ghidorah. The battle rages on as eventually Ghidorah is weakened and Mothra is killed. Mothra transfers her life energy into Ghidorah, causing him to mutate wings and become King Ghidorah. King Ghidorah attacks Godzilla mercilessly, but the power of Godzilla is too mighty, and Ghidorah ends up vaporized like his two allies. However, when Godzilla attempted to use his radiation breath upon the survivors of his rampage, the blast emerges from a wound on his neck he recieved in battle. The uncontrolled burst causes Godzilla to explode, killing the beast once and for all. However, Godzilla's heart lied on the ocean floor and it was still beating.
