Matthew 10:21-23
“Now brother will deliver up
brother to death, and a father his child; and children will
rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. And you will be hated by all
for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the
end will be saved. When they persecute you in
this city, flee to another. For assuredly, I say to you, you will not
have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes."
- A christian who endures
to the end
will be saved.
Matthew 24:9-14
“Then
they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be
hated by all nations for My name’s sake. And then many will be offended, will
betray one another, and will hate one another. Then many false prophets will rise up and
deceive many. And
because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. But he
who endures to the end shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be
preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the
end will come."
- A christian who endures
to the end shall be saved.
Mark 13:9-13
“But
watch out for yourselves, for they will deliver you up to councils, and
you will be beaten in the synagogues. You will be brought before rulers
and kings for My sake, for a testimony to them. And the gospel must first be preached to
all the nations.
But when they arrest you and deliver you up, do not worry
beforehand, or premeditate what you will speak. But whatever is given
you in that hour, speak that; for it is not you who speak, but the Holy
Spirit. Now
brother will betray brother to death, and a father his
child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be
put to death. And you
will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end shall be saved."
- A christian who
endures to the end shall be saved.
Luke 8:11-15
“Now
the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. Those by the wayside are the ones who
hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts,
lest they should believe and be saved. But the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word
with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away. Now the ones that
fell among thorns are those who, when they have heard, go out and are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of
life, and bring no fruit to maturity. But the ones that
fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a
noble and good heart, keep it and bear
fruit with patience. "
- There are some people who hear the word of God, but the
devil
comes and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should
believe and be saved.
- There are some people who hear the word of God, receive it
with
joy, and believe it for a while. However, in time of temptation they
fall away.
- There are some people who hear the word of God but are
choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of
life. They then do not bring fruit to maturity.
- There are some people who hear the word of God with noble
and
good hearts, keep it, and bear fruit
with patience.
Acts 11:22-24
Then
news of these things came to the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and
they sent out Barnabas to go as far as Antioch. When he came and had seen the grace of
God, he was glad, and encouraged them
all that with purpose of heart they should continue with the Lord. For he was a good man, full of the Holy
Spirit and of faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord.
- Barnabas encouraged those in Antioch to continue with the Lord.
Acts 14:21,22
And
when they had preached the gospel to that city and made many disciples,
they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch, strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the
faith, and saying, “We must through many tribulations enter
the kingdom of God.”
- Paul and Barnabas exhorted those in Lystra, Iconium, and
Antioch
to continue in
the faith.
Romans 11:11-24
I
say
then, have they stumbled that they should fall? Certainly not! But
through their fall, to provoke them to jealousy, salvation has come to the Gentiles. Now if their fall is
riches for the world, and their failure riches for the Gentiles, how
much more their fullness!
For I speak to you Gentiles; inasmuch as I am an apostle to the
Gentiles, I magnify my ministry, if by any means I may provoke to jealousy those who are my flesh and save some of them. For if their being cast away is
the reconciling of the world, what will
their acceptance be but life from the dead? For if the firstfruit is
holy, the lump is also holy;
and if the root is holy, so are
the branches. And if
some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree,
were grafted in among them, and with them became a partaker of the root
and fatness of the olive tree, do
not boast against the branches. But if you do boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root
supports you. You will say then, “Branches were broken
off that I might be grafted in.” Well said.
Because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith. Do
not be haughty, but fear.
For if God did not spare the natural branches, He may not spare you
either. Therefore consider the goodness and
severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness,
if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise
you also will be cut off. And they
also, if they do not continue in unbelief, will be grafted in, for God
is able to graft them in again. For if you were cut out of the olive tree
which is wild by nature, and were grafted contrary to nature into a
cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, who are
natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?
- Christians received the goodness of God if they continue in
His
goodness. Otherwise they will be cut off.
1 Corinthians
9:24-27
Do
you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the
prize? Run in such a way that you may
obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it
to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. Therefore I run thus: not with
uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one
who beats the air. But I
discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest,
when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.
- Christians should strive for the imperishable crown.
- Christians should discipline themselves and bring their
bodies
into subjection lest they should be disqualified.
Colossians
1:19-23
For
it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to
Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having
made peace through the blood of His cross. And you, who once were alienated and
enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to
present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight— if indeed
you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved
away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was
preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a
minister.
- Christians have been reconciled in the body of His flesh
through
death, to be presented holy, blameless, and above approach in His sight
- if they continue in the
faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of
the gospel.
2 Timothy 2:1-13
You
therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that you have heard from
me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able
to teach others also. You therefore must endure hardship as a
good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles
himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted
him as a soldier.
And also if anyone competes in
athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the
rules. The hardworking farmer must be
first to partake of the crops. Consider what I say, and may the Lord give you understanding in all
things.
Remember that Jesus Christ, of the seed of David, was raised from the
dead according to my gospel, for
which I suffer trouble as an evildoer, even
to the point of chains; but the word of God is not chained. Therefore I endure all things for the
sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in
Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
This
is a faithful saying:
For
if we died with Him,
We shall also live with Him.
If we endure,
We shall
also
reign with Him.
If we deny Him,
He
also will deny us.
If we are faithless,
He remains faithful;
He
cannot deny Himself.
- Christians must endure hardship as good soldiers of Jesus
Christ.
- Christians must compete for the crown according to the
rules.
- Christians who endure shall reign with Jesus.
- People who deny Jesus will be denied by Jesus.
2 Timothy 4:1-8
I
charge you
therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the
living and the dead at His
appearing and His kingdom:
Preach the word! Be ready in season and
out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and
teaching. For the
time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according
to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up
for themselves teachers; and
they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned
aside to fables.
But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of
an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. For I am already being poured out as a
drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have
fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the
crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give
to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved
His appearing.
- Paul fought the good fight, finished the race, kept the
faith.
Hebrews 6:1-8
Therefore,
leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection,
not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of
faith toward God, of the
doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the
dead, and of eternal judgment. And this we will do if God permits. For
it
is impossible
for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift,
and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the
good word of God and the powers of the age to come, if they fall away, to
renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves
the Son of God, and put Him to an
open shame. For
the earth which drinks in the rain that often comes upon it, and bears
herbs useful for those by whom it is cultivated, receives blessing from
God; but if it
bears thorns and briers, it is rejected and near to being cursed, whose
end is to be burned.
Hebrews 10:32-39
But recall
the former days in which, after you were illuminated, you endured a
great struggle with sufferings: partly while you were made a spectacle both
by reproaches and tribulations, and partly while you became companions
of those who were so treated; for
you had compassion on me in my chains, and joyfully accepted the
plundering of your goods, knowing that you have a better and an
enduring possession for yourselves in heaven. Therefore do not cast away your
confidence, which has great reward. For you
have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God,
you may receive the promise:
“ For yet a little while,
And He who is coming will come and
will not tarry.
Now the
just shall live by faith;
But
if anyone draws back,
My
soul has no pleasure in him.”
But we are not of those who draw back
to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.
- Christians have need of endurance, so that after they have
done the will of God, they may receive the promise.
- The just shall live by
faith; but if anyone draws back, God has no pleasure in him.
- Some draw back to
perdition (eternal damnation).
Hebrews 12:1,2
Therefore
we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin
which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with
endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the
author and finisher of our faith,
who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising
the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
- Christians should lay aside every weight, and the sin which
so
easily ensnares them, and run with endurance the race that is set
before them, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.
James 1:12
Blessed is the man
who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive
the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.
- Blessed is the person who endures temptation.
- The person who endures temptation has been approved by the
Lord.
- The person who endures temptation will receive the crown of
life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.
1 John 5:9-13
If
we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this
is the witness of God which He
has testified of His Son.
He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who
does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed
the testimony that God has given of His Son. And this is the testimony: that God has
given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does
not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I have written to you who
believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have
eternal life, and that you may continue to believe
in the name of the Son of God.
- Christians should continue to believe in the name of the
Son of God.
2 Peter 3:14-18
Therefore,
beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace,
without spot and blameless; and consider that
the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation—as
also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him,
has written to you, as
also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which
are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people
twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures. You therefore, beloved, since you know this
beforehand, beware lest you also fall
from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked;
but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord
and Savior Jesus Christ.
To Him be
the glory both now and forever. Amen.
- Christians should be
diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless.
- The longsuffering of our
Lord is salvation.
- Christians should beware lest they fall from their own
steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked.
- Christians should grow
in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Revelation 1:3
Blessed is he who reads and those
who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are
written in it; for the time is near.
Revelation 2:8-11
“And
to the angel of the church in Smyrna write, ‘These things says the First and the
Last, who was dead, and came to life: “I know your works, tribulation, and
poverty (but you are rich); and I
know the blasphemy of those who
say they are Jews and are not, but are
a synagogue of Satan.
Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed,
the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be
tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give
you the crown of life. “He
who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes shall not be hurt by the
second death.”’
- Christians who are faithful until death will receive the
crown of life.
- Christians who overcome shall not be hurt by the second
death.
Revelation 2:17
“He
who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give some of
the hidden manna to eat. And I will give him a white stone, and on the
stone a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it.”
Revelation
2:24-26
“Now
to you I say, and to the rest
in Thyatira, as many as do not have this doctrine, who have not known
the depths of Satan, as they say, I will put on you no other burden. But hold fast what you have till I
come. And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until
the end, to him I will give power over the nations
Revelation 3:3-6
"Remember
therefore how you have received and heard; hold fast and repent.
Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and
you will not know what hour I will come upon you. You have a few names even in Sardis who have
not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with Me in white, for
they are worthy.
He who overcomes shall be
clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the
Book of Life; but I will
confess his name before My Father and before His angels. “He who has an ear, let him hear what the
Spirit says to the churches.”
- The christian who overcomes shall be clothed in white
garments and will not have their name blotted out from the Book of Life.
- The christian who overcomes will have their name confessed
before God and before His angels by Jesus.
Revelation
3:10-12
Because you have kept My command to
persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come
upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth. Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you
have, that no one may take your crown. He who
overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he
shall go out no more. I will
write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the
New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new
name.
- Christians who keep Jesus' commandment to persevere will be
kept from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world.
- Christians who overcome will be made a pillar in the temple
of God and shall go out no more.
- Jesus will write on him the name of God and the name of the
city of God, the New Jerusalem.
- Jesus will write on him His new name.
Revelation 3:21
To him who overcomes I will grant to sit
with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My
Father on His throne.
