| ****REQUIREMENTS and REQUESTS********** "The RULES" 1. Be considerate of your fellow campers and responsible for yourself 2. Clean up your shit 3. Help with set up and clean up of the entire camp 4. Contribute and participate! (we may need to take up a $ collection for shared supplies such as the generator, trash bags, the main shelter, etc. Many Burning Man Theme camps collect dues - we MAY need to do this too.) 5. **No Kids (sleeping at our camp that is....see below for detailed explaination) 6. REMINDER: illegal substances and activities are illegal everywhere. The VVMC is no exception. It is well known that undercover agents attend the Burning Man festival and arrest people every year. it's only a matter of time before that happens at PDF. Do not expect any of us to bail you out of jail. Remember, one of the primary tenents of the burner community is self-reliance and responsibility. What you do in your own tent is not my - or anyone else's - business. What you do in the shared common area IS! Please do not put your fellow campers at risk or in an uncomfortable position or situation. Be considerate and use your common sense, please. 7. It is preferred that you attend the ENTIRE weekend to be part of this camp. It is not fair if some people come and help set up / clean up while you show up for one day and do nothing. We understand that some people cannot arrive early or stay late (on both ends) but please try to arrange to be there for one or the other. At this time, the event begins at NOON on Friday and ends at NOON on Monday (have to be cleaned up and GONE by then). For the Fall event, most of us had to leave Sunday night and that was ok since most helped to clean up and pack up. The Goddess plans on being there as early as possible on Friday and leaving either Sunday night or Monday morning (depending on who can stay to help clean up - I'll leave Sunday night if nobody can stay Monday to help me.) I would love to have some people who can go early on Friday. There is also a discussion among the PDF planning committe of possibly extending the event - if this happens and we are allowed on the property on Thursday, I may try to get off work to be there then so if you can do that, it would really be a great help! I'll keep everyone posted via the yahoo group. 8. All camp members are responsible for their own transportation or finding their own ride-share buddies, food, and shelter unless we all decide among ourselves to share/trade/gift certain items. *For the FALL event, we did end up dividing some responsibilities and contributions. For example, Larry provided a camping stove and several people contributed food for the entire camp. Larry also got us the generator and I would like to see us all contribute $ for renting one again - and maybe get a bigger one? 9. If you are joining the camp, please tell me how much space you need (how big is your tent? Are you bringing any large contraptions or works of art?) The reason for this: All registered theme camps have a theme camp leader/contact who corresponds with the theme camp coordinator for PDF. The leader must tell the coordinator how much space is needed, what the theme camp is all about, what kind of equipment we are bringing, etc. Since I am the Goddesscomedia leader (we use that term loosely - we are a do-acracy, remember? Everyone gets input as long as everyone contributes), I have to communicate info to the PDF coordinator. The coordinator will then email me the PDF map with our space assignment and I will share it via the yahoo group. 10. You MUST join the yahoo group if you want to join our camp. We have members from a variety of locations (MD, DC, VA, PA, NJ....) and this is how we will conduct our primary communications! Got a friend who wants to join? GREAT! Send them the link to this website and have them join the yahoo group! Anyone who has a large vehicle such as a van or truck in the Baltimore area who can assist me with transporting supplies, please let me know! (I have a really small car) **ONE SERIOUS NOTE PLEASE NO CHILDREN AT THIS CAMP. I know this sounds wierd based on the name and theme of this camp but let me explain: I know that kids are permitted at PDF, I know they will be there and will visit our camp (hopefully,only during the day), I totally love children and will welcome them with open arms. This is cool. However - because of my love of children, my personal ethics and morals, and a strong sense of social responsibilty, I do not want to be responsible for exposing any kids to anything inappropriate. I want our camp to be very free and I want to be able to party it up a bit. I used to work with kids, and still do on occasion, and I would not be able to relax into things if there were even one young child staying at our camp because I'd be totally paranoid about being too loud when they were sleeping, and what I and/or others were doing and saying in front of them. It's who I am. I'd involuntarily and automatically go into "child-protection-mode" and that wouldn't be any fun for me or for YOU. Trust me on this! It doesn't matter if you, as a parent, have an "anything goes" attitude and deemed it appropriate for your child to be exposed to adult things, or are an intelligent and actively engaged parent with an alternative parenting style.b I just simply cannot, and will not, participate in exposing kids to adult things, at this time, because it makes ME uncomfortable and there are too many gray areas, in my opinion. I know that sucks - but it's the truth and I'm admitting it. Kids at events like this make me nervous - but it's the only thing about it that does. Therefore I won't join in that, much like I refuse to enable any other behavior that I feel has the POTENTIAL for dangeror is unhealthy, such as buying a beer for an alcoholic, laughing at racist jokes, or accommodating selfish narcissism. I won't criticize any of the parents or lecture anybody, though - I can respect your choices - to each his own. I'm not looking to debate anyone one on this either. However, if I witness any abuse, the goddess will turn into medusa and the abuser will wish they'd never been born. This is the only thing I'm really uptight about. 'Nuff said.
