Weather:

Hot and dry describes Eleuthera these days. While the temperature is promising to the sun worshippers locals differ from its appearance. There are many predictions that this hurricane season will be quite active due to the early periods of enormous heat.

Conditions currently are favorable to sun lovers and those who like to explore the beaches and tan. The seashore currently provides the greatest means of escape from the days heat and there are many, more than 100 beach locations on our lovely island.

There is little chance of rain currently due to a continued drought. Water tables are being maintained and stocks look promising on into the future.

Come enjoy the tropical beauty of Eleuthera today.

On Eleuthera

Eleuthera is determined by many to be the most beautiful, spacious, tranquil island in the Bahamas with the best proximity and charm to many in the world. Eleuthera is visited by more than 50,000 tourist per annum. The tropical island lies sixty  miles east of Nassau and approximately 150 miles east of Miami Florida. Eleuthera has enjoyed as many as four consecutive decades of a successful tourism industry although the last decade has seen a dramatic decline in new arrival visitors.

Known mostly to Britians, American and European tourists the island boasts of being the most secluded and beautiful in nature to the naturalist taste and a viable market to the second home builder. Many expatriate homes are built by hundreds of foreign investors and rented on an annual reservations basis and has proved to be quite a lucrative investment market by many.

Several friends are currently in the process of building multiple rental houses and are making Eleuthera their second home as well as their most prized investment market. The stable economy and no shortage of skilled, hospitable labor make it ideal for the investor needing such quantities in his investment package. The native inhabitants make great caretakers for these foreign homes as well as maids, chefs, gardeners, painters, even a fine artist colony thrives on this our native island making it one of the more eclectic destinations in the entire Caribbean.

Eleuthera is currently growing with billions of investment dollars and thousands of acres of government land grants promised to both local and foreign developers. In fact the next decade may become a substantial renascence period for the island, which is once again attracting major foreign development and interest.

Eleuthera is poised for growth and is capable in the way of resources to withstand substantial urban development. Both the economic forecasts and the future look very bright for the island which has undergone a substantial decline in growth and a lack of confidence in the international development zone due to politics, potential and other like concerns.

Currently there are a bevy of hotel projects announced by the Bahamian government over the last two years.

Some of the beginning development projects include development areas like Sea Shells of Cotton Bay, Tippy’s development in Governors Harbours Banks Road, Windermere Island, Cape Eleuthera development, Princess Cays, an Under water hotel facility for Hatchet Bay Eleuthera, Promolonts proposed 1 billion dollar hotel marina development on Kemps point in Rock Sound Eleuthera and other ongoing developmental projects which are to create and generate that renascence period so essentially needed for the island of Eleuthera. This projection does not include the many Marina and hotel development projects on stream for the Northern end of the island in areas like Harbour Island and Spanish Wells.

The future looks bright for Eleuthera should these proposed projects come on stream and into fruition. We are looking forward to this much delayed, anticipated period of development on the island of Eleuthera. Several of these proposed developments are undergoing a soft opening and generating much interest for the island of Eleuthera.

Look forward to great thing happening on the island of Eleuthera and do not expect the charm, tranquility and peacefulness of the island to change any time soon as these developments are not situated too close and encroaching on any of the settlements and currently developed areas in our small village like communities. These developments are designed and are expected to only enhance the charm and the capacity of the island to accept and entertain our many expected visitors to our cultural charm and beauty.

See you in Eleuthera soon.

Articles, News and poetry:

It has been some time since I have entered a daily statement into my Internet diary, which I still hope will continue on into the future as much as possible.

Today I take issue with our government and our leaders and their eagerness to give Bahamians birthright away in the form of huge land grants to international/foreign developers.

You see, given economies of scale in our economy local Bahamians have to be eligible to inhabit and be given grants of this same land that they wish to develop.

Lets explore economies of scale, relative investment dollars held by some capable local developers. You see it seems that a project needs to be in the tens of millions of dollars before any investor, local or foreign are considered for land grants.

Many Bahamians have tens of thousands to invest. I recall personally a few years ago when addressing the issue of investing in a hog farm for the island of Eleuthera with the ministry of Agriculture. All I got was lip service and nothing more. At the time I had $20,000.00 to invest in the project. I expressed this fact to the Agricultural officer with whom I was dealing yet in the end I was not considered or even paid attention to as a legitimate investor by that department.

Further along I addressed the Bahamas Development bank about beginning a manufacturing project for Tarpum  Bay, Eleuthera but got no more attention than a letter of acknowledgement from the Director of The Bahamas Development Bank. I received no further attention from that agency whatsoever. Something is gravely wrong in the Bahamas I am afraid when local citizens capable of such small scale developments are not considered to be legitimate, then the morale of these capable investors is hurt.

I am left personally heart broken and dejected by my involvement with the Bahamian government agencies and don’t know how to further proceed in order to receive equivalent incentives in my projects as are given the many foreign investors landing in the Bahamas every day searching for our golden lands in order to profit from our Bahamian birthright which is our own supposedly. There is much healing between government and powerless citizens of the Bahamas in order to rectify this situation and return ownership and dignity to the Bahamian people.

There is much to account for by government when it annually gives away thousands of acres of property to foreign investors and friends of the government but does not consider the average local citizen to invest and not encourage him or her to qualify for the same inventives and land grants given to the foreigner. When will this issue be given consideration by Our Bahamian Government? There is so much that they can do to encourage our citizens into substantial investments.

Can you imagine the hundreds of motel rooms and cottages we are capable of building throughout the Bahama Islands? Do you realize how many Bahamians are waiting for the chance and opportunity to qualify for a land grant from their government?

Our outlook has to change and become more favorable for the common man. We must put the ownership of this country into the hands of our people who have toiled and suffered at the hands of our politicians too long. Times must get better and more favorable for us.

Consider Economies of Scale to be the right characteristic that can apply to the growth and further Bahamian development in our land.
